Effects of dye doping on electro-optical, thermo-electro-optical and dielectric properties of polymer dispersed liquid crystal films

Anuja Katariya-Jain et al.

Summary: This study prepared polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) films doped with dichroic azo dye using the polymer-induced phase separation method. Various characterization techniques were employed to determine the properties of the components and the operating principles of the dye-doped PDLC films. The electro-optical analysis indicated excellent performance of the DPDLC film with a low dye concentration, showing high contrast ratio, transmittance difference, low threshold and saturation voltages, and minimum hysteresis effect.

Investigating the structural and linear/nonlinear optical parameters of PVA/CMC blend loaded by ZnS quantum dots

A. M. El-naggar et al.

Summary: In this study, a blend of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) loaded with different ratios of zinc sulfide quantum dots (ZnS QDs) was prepared using thermolysis and casting methods. The nano nature of the powder filler was examined using X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The optical features of the PVA/CMC blend were investigated using UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The results showed that increasing the loading ratio of ZnS QDs significantly affected the optical properties of the blend, providing the possibility for tuning the band gap, refractive index, and optical conductivity. The present materials have the potential for a wide range of applications in optoelectronics, coatings, and lenses.

Complex dielectric, complex electric modulus, and electrical conductivity in Al/(Graphene-PVA)/p-Si (metal-polymer-semiconductor) structures

Seda Karadas et al.

Summary: This study investigated the electrical properties of Al/(5% Gr-PVA)/p-Si structures using impedance measurements and found that using a high dielectric organic interface layer such as (5% Gr-PVA) can significantly increase the capacitance in a capacitor. The values of complex dielectric and electric modulus were influenced by frequency, while lower M' values at low frequencies were related to the mobility of charge carriers. Peaks observed in tan delta-V and M''-V plots varied in magnitude and position with changing frequency, suggesting the importance of the (5% Gr-PVA) organic interlayer for its flexibility, low energy consumption, and simple growth process.

Summary: Two modified phosphate minerals were characterized after heat treatment, revealing a single apatite phase at 1000 degrees C. Complex impedance analysis showed that the material from Khouribga deposit exhibited the best conduction properties, offering potential for modulating mixed ionic conductivity. The conduction mechanism was found to be one-dimensional for fluoride and three-dimensional for sodium in the apatite structure, allowing for versatile ion conductivity modulation.

Use of UV-Vis Spectrophotometry for Characterization of Carbon Nanostructures: a Review

M. Abdolkarimi-Mahabadi et al.

Summary: The study reveals that carbon nanostructures exhibit characteristic absorption bands in the UV-Vis regions of the spectrum, with the intensity of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) peaks being proportional to their concentration in suspensions. Furthermore, the absorption of light by carbon nanostructures follows the Lambert-Beer law, regardless of their structure or preparation method. Spectroscopy in the UV-Vis regions is shown to be a fast, affordable, universal, and inexpensive method for the identification and qualitative and quantitative characterization of CNSs.
