A novel modified chitosan/collagen coated-gold nanoparticles for 5-fluo-rouracil delivery: Synthesis, characterization, in vitro drug release studies, anti-inflammatory activity and in vitro cytotoxicity assay

Summary: In this study, novel nanohybrids of gold nanoparticles coated with collagen and modified with BiQCS were developed for improved drug delivery. The layer-by-layer technique increased the drug loading capacity of the nanoparticles and enhanced their cellular uptake and specific targeting. The nanohybrids also exhibited strong anti-inflammatory activity and greatly improved the activity of the drug. These findings suggest that the Bi-QCSAuNPs@collagen could be a promising drug delivery carrier in the future.

Perspectives on composite films of chitosan-based natural products (Ginger, Curcumin, and Cinnamon) as biomaterials for wound dressing

Summary: Natural materials are increasingly favored for wound healing and food applications due to their potential to address environmental concerns associated with traditional materials. In this study, biomaterials based on chitosan incorporated with natural products (ginger, curcumin, and cinnamon) were successfully fabricated. The antimicrobial properties of the materials were investigated, confirming their effectiveness against various microorganisms. The interaction between chitosan and the natural products was confirmed through XRD patterns, FTIR-ATR, and FTIR spectra. The optical and mechanical properties of the materials were also studied, with chitosan/ginger exhibiting the best mechanical characteristics. Moreover, the materials showed potential in generating electron-hole pairs, which are important for antimicrobial activities. The findings suggest that chitosan/ginger could be used in wound dressing applications.
