Influence of Grading on Management and Outcome in Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma of the Parotid-A Multi-institutional Analysis

Stefan Grasl et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the clinical outcomes of low, intermediate, and high-grade mucoepidermoid carcinomas (MEC) in the parotid gland. The risk of occult nodal metastasis was found to be high in intermediate-grade MEC, similar to high-grade MEC. Additionally, elective neck dissection (END) in G1 tumors was associated with prolonged disease-free survival (DFS). Periparotid node involvement seemed to be a predictor for positive neck node involvement. This study provides preliminary data to consider END in clinically neck node-negative patients with parotid MEC.

Prognostic analysis and nomogram establishment in patients with head and neck myoepithelial carcinoma

Keyuan Liu et al.

Summary: HNMC usually occurs in elderly patients with no gender difference. The 5-year overall survival (OS) and disease-specific survival (DSS) rates are 70% and 79.8%, respectively. Grade, N, M stage, and surgery are independent prognostic factors for OS, while N, M stage, and surgery are independent prognostic factors for DSS. Compared to surgery alone, adjuvant radiation appears to offer a significant OS benefit for patients with stage III or IV.

Targeted Therapy, Chemotherapy, Immunotherapy and Novel Treatment Options for Different Subtypes of Salivary Gland Cancer

Sarina K. K. Mueller et al.

Summary: Surgical resection is the preferred treatment for salivary gland cancer. For inoperable and metastatic disease, various systemic therapies are available. However, there is a need for more research and molecular analysis to improve treatment outcomes.

Management and outcome of parotid mucoepidermoid carcinoma by histological grade: A 21-year review

Masataka Taniuchi et al.

Summary: This study found that the histological grade of Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is related to prognosis, with a significant difference in survival rate between low/intermediate and high-grade cases. Fine-needle aspiration cytology had a low accuracy in assessing the grade of MEC.

Systemic therapy for salivary gland malignancy: current status and future perspectives

Yoshinori Imamura et al.

Summary: Salivary gland malignancies are rare tumors with diverse histological and biological features. The application of systemic therapy in the treatment of salivary gland malignancies remains challenging, and there is currently no defined treatment advantage. Personalized therapies have been widely accepted, but a multidisciplinary approach is necessary to consider both patient needs and tumor characteristics.

Acinic cell carcinoma of the salivary gland in the adult and paediatric population: a survival analysis

Anders Sideris et al.

Summary: Acinic cell carcinoma (AcCC) is a rare malignant neoplasm of the salivary glands, with surgery as the first-line treatment showing excellent survival outcomes. The clinico-pathological features and treatment methods are associated with survival results, with certain high-risk factors linked to poor survival outcomes.

Summary: The study developed a nomogram for predicting cancer-specific survival in HSCC patients, which showed higher accuracy than traditional AJCC staging. The nomogram included factors such as age, marital status, T, N, and M stage, and postoperative adjuvant therapy.

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma of salivary glands: A French Network of Rare Head and Neck Tumors (REFCOR) prospective study of 292 cases

Laurie Saloner Dahan et al.

Summary: This study described the characteristics of the largest European study on MEC of salivary glands and identified prognostic factors for overall and disease-free survival. The main prognostic factors included tumor grade, age, disease stage, and presence of diabetes. Advanced clinical stage, high-grade tumor, older age, inability to undergo complete surgical resection, and diabetes were found to have significant negative impacts on patient outcomes.

Nomograms-based prediction of overall and cancer-specific survivals for patients diagnosed with major salivary gland carcinoma

Zhiyong Guo et al.

Summary: This study established a reliable and effective nomogram to predict the overall survival and cancer-specific survival of major salivary glands carcinoma patients. The nomogram showed good performance, high prediction accuracy, and was superior to traditional staging methods.
