Stereocontrolled acyclic diene metathesis polymerization

Ting-Wei Hsu et al.

Summary: In this study, a stereoretentive acyclic diene metathesis polymerization method was developed to control the cis/trans geometry of polyalkenamers. This method exhibited low catalyst loadings and tolerance towards trans impurities, enabling the synthesis of various polymers with predictable cis:trans ratios. The impact of the stereochemistry of the repeating alkenes on the thermal properties was clearly demonstrated.

Summary: This study successfully synthesized two new platinum and uranium compounds with nicotinic acid and determined their structures through single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Hirshfeld surface analysis revealed that hydrogen bonds were the main contributors to intermolecular interactions in all compounds.

Highly Substrate-Selective Macrocyclic Ring Closing Metathesis

Ravindra S. Phatake et al.

Summary: A selective ring-closing metathesis (RCM) reaction using latent sulfur chelated ruthenium iodide benzylidenes as catalysts, activated by thermal and photochemical stimuli, has been reported. This method enables the formation of large macrocycles with high yields, especially for dienes with one terminal alkene and one internal double bond. For substrates containing two internal double bonds, a sacrificial methylene donor can be used to obtain the desired products.

Synthesis and catalysis of a Z-stereoretentive ruthenium carbene catalyst chelated by 2,4,5,7-tetrachloro-1,8-dimercaptonaphthalene for olefin metathesis

Huiqing Zhang et al.

Summary: In this work, a novel ruthenium-based carbene olefin metathesis catalyst was synthesized and exhibited excellent catalytic activity and stereo selectivity in ring-opening cross-metathesis and cross-metathesis reactions. The catalyst tolerated various olefin substrates containing different functional groups.

Sulfur-Chelated Ruthenium Olefin Metathesis Catalysts

Noy B. Nechmad et al.

Summary: The historical development of latent sulfur-chelated ruthenium precatalysts from the Lemcoff group's perspective is summarized in this Account. These complexes exhibit a unique cis-dichloro configuration that is latent towards olefin metathesis reactions. Activation of the precatalyst, through isomerization from cis-dihalo to trans-dihalo forms, can be achieved via thermal or light stimuli, with modifications to the ligand sphere imparting unique properties used in diverse applications.

Synthesis and Catalytic Properties of a Very Latent Selenium-Chelated Ruthenium Benzylidene Olefin Metathesis Catalyst

Louis Monsigny et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and catalytic properties of a cis-dichlorido seleno-chelated Hoveyda-Grubbs type complex (Ru8) obtained through a straightforward synthetic protocol. The Ru8 complex shows high latency and exhibits switchable behavior upon thermal activation, unlike its sulfur-chelated counterpart. Furthermore, the selenium analogue of the Hoveyda type catalyst is found to be active upon both heat and light irradiation.

Ruthenium Complexes Featuring Unsymmetrical N-Heterocyclic Carbene Ligands-Useful Olefin Metathesis Catalysts for Special Tasks

Louis Monsigny et al.

Summary: This review discusses a distinct class of ruthenium olefin metathesis catalysts with unsymmetrical N-heterocyclic carbene (uNHC) ligands, highlighting their advantages such as thermodynamic stability, chemical latency, selectivity, and compatibility with green solvents in specialized metathesis transformations. Despite being niche, uNHC complexes have the potential to be implemented in various industrial processes like valorization of Fischer-Tropsch olefin fractions, ethenolysis of renewable products, and modern pharmaceutical production.
