Synthesis of ?-Aryl Secondary Amides via Nickel-Catalyzed Reductive Coupling of Redox-Active Esters

Alexis L. Gabbey et al.

Summary: In this study, a new strategy was reported for the synthesis of secondary α-aryl amides through a nickel-catalyzed reductive arylation reaction using N-hydroxyphthalimide (NHP) esters of malonic acid half amides as redox-active substrates. This method proceeds under mild conditions and exhibits excellent chemoselectivity for amide α-arylation in the presence of other enolizable carbonyls.

Control of Redox-Active Ester Reactivity Enables a General Cross-Electrophile Approach to Access Arylated Strained Rings

Daniel C. Salgueiro et al.

Summary: In this study, a nickel-catalyzed cross-electrophile approach was developed to couple various strained ring N-hydroxyphthalimide (NHP) esters with aryl and heteroaryl halides. This method can be run in flow and in 96-well plates, and it has significant application potential.

The Asymmetric Synthesis of Amines via Nickel-Catalyzed Enantioconvergent Substitution Reactions

Ze-Peng Yang et al.

Summary: Chiral dialkyl carbinamines are important compounds in various fields, and two mild methods for their catalytic enantioconvergent synthesis using a chiral nickel catalyst have been reported. These methods are versatile and can be used for the synthesis of a variety of functionalized dialkyl carbinamines, including a one-pot variant for generating enantioenriched compounds from commercially available amino acid derivatives. The utility of these methods has been demonstrated in the efficient catalytic enantioselective synthesis of a range of target molecules.

Utilization of C(sp3)-Carboxylic Acids and Their Redox-Active Esters in Decarboxylative Carbon-Carbon Bond Formation

Sukhen Karmakar et al.

Summary: In recent years, radical-mediated decarboxylative cross-coupling reactions using alkyl carboxylic acids have become a powerful tool for constructing carbon-carbon bonds, leading to complex chemical scaffolds. This synthetic strategy has advantages over conventional organometallic reagents in terms of abundant starting material availability and high functional group tolerance.
