Conjugated Metal-Organic Macrocycles: Synthesis, Characterization, and Electrical Conductivity

Leo B. Zasada et al.

Summary: We report the synthesis of copper-based macrocycles resembling truncated fragments of a two-dimensional metal-organic framework. These macrocycles self-assemble into ordered nanotubes and exhibit high conductivities and ambipolar charge transport. By enhancing solution processability, these macrocycles enable device integration and provide deeper insights into out-of-plane charge transport in two-dimensional metal-organic frameworks.

Zongtao Wang et al.

Summary: In this paper, three bay-position-substituted perylene diimide derivatives were designed and synthesized for the first time as cathode interface materials (CIMs) in organic photovoltaics (OPVs). The experimental results showed that these compounds exhibited good performance, promoting the power conversion efficiency and stability of OPVs. This research has significant implications for the development of efficient and stable OPVs.

Periphery-Core Strategy to Access a Bowl-Shaped Molecule Bearing Multiple Heteroatoms

Jianrong Wu et al.

Summary: A bowl-shaped compound containing multiple heteroatoms was synthesized through a periphery-core strategy, with a low ratio of carbon atom to heteroatom. Crystallographic analysis confirmed the formation of the bowl-shaped structure, and the presence of heteroatoms resulted in distinct aromaticity compared to its all-carbon congener. The electron-rich buckybowl showed a strong interaction with the electron-deficient fullerene C-60.

Boosting Circularly Polarized Luminescence Performance by a Double π-Helix and Heteroannulation

Yujian Liu et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the design challenges in developing circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) materials, aiming to balance the luminescence dissymmetry factor and photoluminescence quantum yield. A double pi-helix based on a cyclooctatetraene-embedded perylene diimide dimer is introduced to combine chirality with molecular entanglement and high barriers for racemization. By regulating the electric and magnetic transition dipole moment vectors, the dissymmetry factors and photoluminescence quantum yield of the material are significantly improved. The results demonstrate the potential of this chiral material for applications in chiral optoelectronics.

Iterative Synthesis of Contorted Macromolecular Ladders for Fast-Charging and Long-Life Lithium Batteries

Zexin Jin et al.

Summary: In this study, we report an iterative synthesis method for long helical perylene diimide nanoribbons. These nanoribbons show great potential as organic fast-charging and long-lifetime battery cathodes. By adjusting the length of the nanoribbons, we can simultaneously modulate the electrical conductivity and ionic diffusivity of the material. The longest nanoribbon material exhibits high electrical conductivity, high ionic diffusivity, high power density, and exceptional cycling stability.

Iterative Synthesis of Contorted Macromolecular Ladders for Fast- Charging and Long-Life Lithium Batteries

Zexin Jin et al.

Summary: The iterative synthesis of long helical perylene diimide (hPDI[n]) nanoribbons shows potential as organic fast-charging and long-lasting battery cathodes. By tuning the length of the hPDI[n] oligomers, both electrical conductivity and ionic diffusivity of the material can be modulated. The longest oligomer, hPDI[6], demonstrates high power density, fast charging, and exceptional cycling stability.

π-Extended perylene diimide double-heterohelicenes as ambipolar organic semiconductors for broadband circularly polarized light detection

Li Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel approach of skeleton merging was introduced to address the dilemma between strong coupling with circular polarized light and high charge-carrier mobility in high-performance chiral organic semiconducting molecules. The resulting pi-extended double helicene structure exhibits high dissymmetry factor, extended pi-planar system for charge transport properties, near-infrared light absorption, and ambipolar charge transport abilities, enabling high photoresponsivity and external quantum efficiency in both p- and n-type modes under NIR light irradiation. These characteristics allow for high-performance broadband CPL detections up to the NIR spectral region.
