Solution-Processed Efficient Blue Phosphorescent Organic Light-Emitting Diodes (PHOLEDs) Enabled by Hole-Transport Material Incorporated Single Emission Layer

Taeshik Earmme

Summary: Solution-processed blue phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes (PHOLEDs) with a single emission layer and small-molecule hole-transport materials (HTMs) have demonstrated high efficiency. Various HTMs are incorporated to enhance hole-transport properties of the emission layer, leading to significant improvement in device performance.

Designing Host Materials for the Emissive Layer of Single-Layer Phosphorescent Organic Light-Emitting Diodes: Toward Simplified Organic Devices

Cyril Poriel et al.

Summary: Thanks to tremendous efforts over the past 20 years, phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes (PhOLEDs) have become a prevalent technology. Developing high-performance single-layer PhOLEDs (SL-PhOLEDs) is challenging due to the need to ensure efficient charge injection, transport, and recombination within the emissive layer. An analysis of different molecular design strategies for constructing high-efficiency hosts for SL-PhOLEDs has been conducted.

Reducing the efficiency roll-off in organic light-emitting diodes at high currents under external magnetic fields

Afshin Shahalizad et al.

Summary: Singlet-polaron and triplet-polaron annihilation mechanisms are the main causes of efficiency roll-off in OLEDs at high current densities, hindering the development of electrically pumped organic semiconductor lasers. By reducing Forster-type exciton-polaron annihilation processes under a large external magnetic field, efficiency roll-off can be suppressed in europium-based solution-processed OLEDs while enhancing luminance. Manipulation of polaron-spin and exciton dynamics under the applied magnetic field leads to quantitative roll-off suppression.

Utilization of double-sensitized structure toward achieving high performance green and red phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes

Shuaibing Li et al.

Summary: In this study, iridium(iii)bis(4-(tert-butyl)-2,6-diuoro-2,3-bipyridinne)acetylacetonate (FK306) was used as a sensitizer and incorporated into both light-emitting and electron transport layers to constitute a double-sensitized system, which effectively enhanced the performance of OLEDs by improving carrier balance and carrier recombination probability. The presence of FK306 molecules within the layers broadened the recombination zone and suppressed exciton quenching, leading to higher efficiency and slower efficiency roll-off. High performance green OLED with a double-sensitized structure achieved maximum current efficiency, external quantum efficiency, power efficiency, and brightness. Additionally, this device design strategy was also efficient in enhancing the performance of red OLEDs.
