Nanoplasmonic-Enhanced Spintronic Terahertz Emission

Shaojie Liu et al.

Summary: The fashionable spintronic terahertz (THz) emission has opened up new pathways for contactless diagnosing femtosecond spin currents and presents a potential solution for improving THz efficiency through gold nanorods (GNRs) plasmonic resonances. Systematic investigations reveal the effectiveness of surface plasmon resonance in increasing THz emission from W/CoFeB/Pt heterostructures. Theoretical interpretations and numerical simulations semiquantitatively reproduce the experimental results, suggesting the potential for developing functional nano-THz optospintronic devices.

Cascaded Amplification and Manipulation of Terahertz Emission by Flexible Spintronic Heterostructures

Zuanming Jin et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates an efficient and practical approach to enhance and manipulate THz generation based on a cascaded Pt/CoFe/Ta trilayer fabricated on a flexible PET substrate. The cascaded design enables all THz emission from each PET/STE propagating almost in-phase and yields a 1.55 times amplification compared to a single PET/STE. Two proof-of-concept demonstrations highlight the potential of flexible PET/STE for building blocks of advanced functionalities.

Electric-field control of nonlinear THz spintronic emitters

Piyush Agarwal et al.

Summary: Energy-efficient spintronic technology holds tremendous potential for next-generation processors operating at terahertz frequencies. In this study, a nonlinear electric-field control of terahertz spin current-based emitters was demonstrated using a piezoelectric material. This breakthrough offers opportunities for the realization of tunable energy-efficient spintronic-photonic integrated platforms.

Spintronic terahertz emitter with integrated electromagnetic control

Yunqing Jiang et al.

Summary: This article introduces the design of a new generation of spintronic THz emitters. The new emitter not only simplifies the ancillary equipment, but also has a larger THz signal compared to traditional THz systems. Experimental results and theoretical calculations demonstrate its stable THz signal generation ability. By optimizing the spin thin film, a low magnetic field is sufficient for high performance THz emission.

Enhanced Nonlinear Optical Responses of Layered Epsilon-near-Zero Metamaterials at Visible Frequencies

Sisira Suresh et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the strong nonlinear optical properties of an optical ENZ metamaterial, showing that the nonlinear enhancement is proportional to the linear effective refractive index. In contrast to homogeneous ENZ materials, these metamaterials offer greater tunability and can be designed with large nonlinearities at any specified optical wavelength within the visible spectrum.

Enhanced directive terahertz radiation emission from a horn antenna-coupled W/Fe/Pt spintronic film stack

B. Y. Shahriar et al.

Summary: Enhanced directive terahertz radiation emission is demonstrated from a spintronic THz radiation emitter coupled with a horn antenna, avoiding the use of additional lenses. The waveguide-fed horn antenna is fabricated using 3D lithography and directly coupled to the THz-emitting film. The antenna-coupled emitter provides increased signal power and can serve as a directive bandpass filter for platforms with size constraints.

Separation of emission mechanisms in spintronic terahertz emitters

Yongshan Liu et al.

Summary: Spintronic thin films have been found to be high-performance broadband terahertz emitters, with emission mechanisms depending on the thickness of the ferromagnetic layer. The suppression of spin-charge conversion was observed when an ultrathin Al2O3 layer was inserted between the ferromagnetic and heavy metal layers, in agreement with theoretical predictions based on a simple spin-diffusion model.
