Polarization Independent Quantum Devices With Ultra-Low Birefringence Glass Waveguides

Feng Yu et al.

Summary: The study reduced waveguide birefringence using an amplitude-phase double shaping method, resulting in a more circular cross-section and lower birefringence. A polarization-independent quantum interferometer was fabricated based on this ultralow birefringence waveguide, with interference visibilities and standard deviations of 95% and 0.6% respectively.

Graphene-Based Polarization-Independent Mid-Infrared Electro-Absorption Modulator Integrated in a Chalcogenide Glass Waveguide

Yong Zhou et al.

Summary: The polarization-insensitive graphene-based mid-infrared optical modulator is designed with SiO2/Ge23Sb7S70 material. It supports both TM and TE polarizing modes with identical absorption, and has low polarization-sensitivity loss and low insertion loss. The modulator features a high extinction ratio, wide operating spectrum, and high modulation bandwidth.

Experimental topological photonic superlattice

Yao Wang et al.

Summary: Topological phase plays a central role in understanding matter and tailoring properties of artificial materials, and is being pursued in various systems. A topological photonic superlattice with arbitrary number of sites in each unit cell was successfully mapped onto a photonic chip and observed in the quantum regime. This structure exhibits topologically protected edge states and stable interface states with Bloch-oscillation-like breathing dynamic behavior.
