Radiative energy band gap of nanostructures coupled with quantum emitters around the epsilon-near-zero frequency

Tao Gong et al.

Summary: In this article, we propose the concept of a radiative energy band gap for an epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) nanoparticle coupled with a quantum emitter (QE). The radiative emission of the coupled QE-nanoparticle can be suppressed around the ENZ frequency and enhanced at other frequencies, resulting in an effective energy band gap for radiation. This suppression is independent of particle size and is therefore an intrinsic property of the ENZ material. Our concept also offers an alternative way to quench the emission from a QE, which may have potential applications in quantum information storage.

Dielectric Resonant Metaphotonics

Kirill Koshelev et al.

Summary: The rapid progress in subwavelength optics and nanophotonics is supported by Mie resonances in high refractive index nanoparticles, which provides a new platform for light localization and opens up new horizons for metamaterial-enabled photonics. This review paper discusses recent advances in Mie-resonant metaphotonics for high-index dielectric nanoparticles and metasurfaces, as well as their applications in topological photonics, while also outlining future developments in this field and its connections to other research areas.

Zhiyu Luo et al.

Summary: The addition of nano-SiO2 and nano-TiO2 particles in fly ash-based geopolymers improved compressive strength and micro mechanical properties of N-A-S-H gels. Nano-SiO2 had a greater impact on macro-strength, while nano-TiO2 significantly enhanced gel micro-mechanical properties. Both nanoparticles showed a positive effect on the early reaction rate of geopolymers.

Multiband superbackscattering via mode superposition in a single dielectric particle

Alexander W. Powell et al.

Summary: The superposition of resonances in a subwavelength particle can lead to powerful scattering beyond single channel limit and determine the directionality of scattered radiation. By overlapping modes with equivalent polarity in the far-field, a superbackscattering condition can be achieved, maximizing the total backscattered power. Additionally, overlapping multiple sets of modes can result in a multiband, superbackscattering effect.
