Summary: Rational design of heterostructures is an effective strategy for enhancing the photocatalytic activity of semiconductors. In this study, a dual Z-scheme CdS/ZWO/ZnS heterojunction photocatalyst was synthesized by assembling zero-dimensional CdS and ZnS quantum dots onto one-dimensional ZnWO4 nanorods. The photocatalytic experiments demonstrated that the dual Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst exhibited significantly higher photodegradation activity compared to individual CdS, ZnS, and binary CdS/ZWO and ZnS/ZWO heterojunctions. The characteristics and photocatalytic mechanism of the CdS/ZWO/ZnS photocatalysts were investigated using various measurement techniques and computational calculations.

Summary: Two atomic layered BiOCl nanosheets with rich oxygen vacancies were constructed via surface Pd deposition, exhibiting high photocatalytic activity and selectivity. The ultrathin structure of the nanosheets induces the formation of surface oxygen vacancies, resulting in increased visible light absorption. In-situ experiments revealed that the oxygen vacancy sites contribute to the conversion of O-2 molecules from air to the surface. Furthermore, low-coordinated Bi and Pd sites play crucial roles in the formation of active species.

Summary: A double Z-scheme BiOI/g-C3N4/CoFe2O4 composite was prepared and used for the degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride under visible light. The degradation rate reached 85.2% after 240 minutes. The enhanced photocatalytic performance can be attributed to the increased visible light absorption, double Z-scheme charge transfer mechanism, and layered structure. Slight photocorrosion of CoFe2O4 caused the degradation process to be divided into a fast stage and a slow stage. BiOI/g-C3N4/CoFe2O4 remained stable during the photocatalytic reaction.

Summary: Constructing a step-scheme (S-scheme) heterojunction is a promising route to improve photocatalytic activities by manipulating charge transfer and separation, with interfacial facet engineering playing a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency of separation behaviors for powerful redox reactions. The directionality of migration and recombination of charge carriers is greatly accelerated by a stronger built-in electric field and band bending around the interface, leading to more efficient spatial separation for participating in overall redox reactions. It demonstrates significant superiority in photocatalytic H-2 evolution and provides new insights into the rational construction of S-scheme photocatalysts based on interfacial facet design and internal electric field regulation.
