Anxiety levels moderate the association between visual acuity and health-related quality of life in chronic eye disease patients

Summary: This study examines the potential moderating effect of depression and anxiety on the relationship between visual acuity and health-related quality of life in patients with chronic eye diseases. The results show that visual acuity, anxiety, and age of diagnosis are independently associated with health-related quality of life. Anxiety moderates the relationship between visual acuity and health-related quality of life, with higher levels of anxiety exacerbating the negative impact of vision loss on quality of life.

The Michigan Retinal Degeneration Questionnaire: A Patient-Reported Outcome Instrument for Inherited Retinal Degenerations

Summary: A validated patient-reported outcome measure for inherited retinal degenerations was developed through qualitative and quantitative questionnaire development. The final 59-item questionnaire measures 7 unidimensional domains and shows stable test-retest variability. Known as the Michigan Retinal Degeneration Questionnaire, it can be used in clinical evaluation of patients with inherited retinal degenerations.

The Michigan Vision-Related Anxiety Questionnaire: A Psychosocial Outcomes Measure for Inherited Retinal Degenerations

Summary: This study developed a patient-reported outcome measure for screening and monitoring vision-related anxiety in patients with inherited retinal degenerations. The questionnaire, initially consisting of 166 items, was validated and reduced to 14 items divided into two dimensions: rod function anxiety and cone function anxiety. The questionnaire showed high marginal reliability and exhibited convergence validity with symptoms of depression and anxiety.
