Anxiety levels moderate the association between visual acuity and health-related quality of life in chronic eye disease patients

Hugo Senra et al.

Summary: This study examines the potential moderating effect of depression and anxiety on the relationship between visual acuity and health-related quality of life in patients with chronic eye diseases. The results show that visual acuity, anxiety, and age of diagnosis are independently associated with health-related quality of life. Anxiety moderates the relationship between visual acuity and health-related quality of life, with higher levels of anxiety exacerbating the negative impact of vision loss on quality of life.

The Michigan Retinal Degeneration Questionnaire: A Patient-Reported Outcome Instrument for Inherited Retinal Degenerations

Gabrielle D. Lacy et al.

Summary: A validated patient-reported outcome measure for inherited retinal degenerations was developed through qualitative and quantitative questionnaire development. The final 59-item questionnaire measures 7 unidimensional domains and shows stable test-retest variability. Known as the Michigan Retinal Degeneration Questionnaire, it can be used in clinical evaluation of patients with inherited retinal degenerations.

The Michigan Vision-Related Anxiety Questionnaire: A Psychosocial Outcomes Measure for Inherited Retinal Degenerations

Gabrielle D. Lacy et al.

Summary: This study developed a patient-reported outcome measure for screening and monitoring vision-related anxiety in patients with inherited retinal degenerations. The questionnaire, initially consisting of 166 items, was validated and reduced to 14 items divided into two dimensions: rod function anxiety and cone function anxiety. The questionnaire showed high marginal reliability and exhibited convergence validity with symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Inherited retinal diseases: Therapeutics, clinical trials and end points-A review

Michalis Georgiou et al.

Summary: Inherited retinal diseases are a group of disorders characterized by photoreceptor degeneration or dysfunction, leading to severe vision loss. The advancements in genetics, retinal imaging, and molecular biology have paved the way for the development of treatments such as gene therapy and ongoing clinical trials targeting various retinal dystrophies. The current research aims to explore novel therapies for these diseases and improve patient outcomes.
