Numerical study on the characteristics of vortex-induced vibrations of a small-scale subsea jumper using a wake oscillator model

Yang Qu et al.

Summary: The vortex-induced vibrations (VIVs) of a small-scale subsea jumper were numerically studied using a wake oscillator model. The dynamics of the jumper were described based on linear Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, and a wake oscillator model was utilized to model the hydrodynamic force acting on it. The study identified important characteristics of VIVs and explored the mechanism behind them, highlighting the significance of axial rigid body motions in the jumper mode for reliable prediction of VIVs.
