Three-dimensional theoretical analysis of seepage field in front of shield tunnel face

Qiguang Di et al.

Summary: In this study, theoretical analysis and numerical simulations were conducted to evaluate hydraulic head distribution in front of a shield tunnel in a saturated soil layer. A 3D theoretical analytical model of the shield tunnel face and the seepage field was established using eigenfunction and Fourier series expansion methods. The proposed analytical solution was compared and analyzed with the results of the numerical simulation. It was found that the proposed analytical solution yielded similar results to the numerical simulation but required less computation time. The ratio of initial water table to tunnel diameter was found to have a significant impact on hydraulic head distribution.

Analytical solution for wave-induced hydraulic response on subsea shield tunnel

Chengwei Zhu et al.

Summary: This study develops a new set of analytical solutions for analyzing the wave-induced hydraulic response on submarine shield tunnels, which are verified with numerical simulations. Results show that soil permeability is the most significant factor affecting the hydraulic response, and the shield tunnel acts as both an obstruction to water pressure propagation and a drain in the seabed.
