The damage characteristics of cabin structures under internal explosion load are important for designing vessel's anti-explosion performance. Experimental studies were conducted to investigate the dynamic response characteristics and failure modes of stiffened cabin structures under internal blast loading. A dimensionless damage number was proposed to predict the damage modes of stiffened cabin structures. The results showed that the damage modes of cabin structures depend on the material and scaled detonation distance.
The damage characteristics of cabin structures under the internal explosion load are of great significance to the design of the anti-explosion performance of the vessel. Therefore, to study the dynamic response characteristics and failure modes of the stiffened cabin structures under the internal blast loading, the experimental studies including 11 tests of stiffened cabin models with TNT charge were carried out. The damage modes of 921A and Q345 steels cabin models with different thicknesses were conducted in the experiments under the condition of scaled detonation distance 0.814m.kg(-1/3) and 0.493m.kg(-1/3); The damage similarity tests of Q345 steel stiffened cabin structures were carried out according to the design of scaling factor 1:2:3 under the condition of scaled detonation distance 0.474m.kg(-1/3); the damage modes of the Q345 steel stiffened cabin models with the same size scaled detonation distance 0.474m.kg(-1/3) and 0.376m.kg(-1/3) were studied. In addition, a dimensionless damage number for predicting the damage modes of stiffened cabin structures under internal blast loading is proposed based on dimensional analysis. The results show that the damage modes of 8 mm-Q345 steel cabin structure is similar to that of 6 mm-921A steel cabin structure under internal blast load; the damage mode of Q345 steel cabin structures does not meet the similarity under the condition of large equivalent explosive blasting in the present study; for the same size and steel material cabin structures, the more serious the damage mode is when the scaled detonation distance decreases. According to the experimental results, the dimensionless damage number can predict four damage degrees of the stiffened cabin structures.
