Investigation of Oblique Flexural Gravity Wave Scattering by Two Submerged Thin Vertical Porous Barriers with Different Porosities

Ayan Chanda et al.

Summary: In this study, a hydroelastic model is developed to investigate the interaction of oblique water waves with fully submerged thin vertical porous barriers in a homogeneous fluid. The model considers a thin ice-sheet on the free surface and utilizes analytical solutions to analyze the reflection and transmission coefficients, energy loss, and wave forces. The study also examines the effects of the floating ice-sheet on the hydrodynamic forces and observes the oscillatory behavior and increased forces with higher barrier heights.

Finite element-Multi-domain boundary element method for hydroelastic analysis of large floating pontoons with perforated plates

H. P. Nguyen et al.

Summary: This paper presents a FE-MDBE method for analyzing the hydroelastic behavior of large floating pontoons with perforated plates. The method uses shell theory to model the structure and linear wave theory to model fluid motion. The fluid-structure interaction equations are solved using FEM and MDBEM. The proposed method is verified by comparing its results with experimental data and can be used for hydrodynamic and hydroelastic analyses of floating breakwaters and large floating platforms.

Scattering of Water Waves by Very Large Floating Structure in the Presence of a Porous Box

S. Singla et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effectiveness of a porous box in attenuating the structural response of a very large floating structure (VLFS). The results show that a porous box with moderate values of the porous-effect parameter can reduce strain and shear force on the VLFS, as well as the amplitude on the lee side of the structure.

Integral equation technique for water wave interaction by an array of vertical flexible porous wave barriers

Santanu Koley et al.

Summary: Scattering of obliquely incident surface gravity waves by an array of partial flexible vertical porous wave barriers of varied configurations in different water depths and deep water cases was studied using linearized water wave theory. The research involved solving boundary value problems through Fredholm integral equations, converting them to linear algebraic equations for computation of physical quantities and deriving energy identities. The study was extended to analyze wave scattering by multiple non-identical unequally spaced barriers, with results for equally spaced identical barriers obtained as a special case. The methodology used has the potential for generalization to solve similar problems in mathematical physics.

A BEM model for wave forces on structures with thin porous elements

Ed Mackay et al.

Summary: A boundary element method (BEM) model is presented to study wave forces on structures with solid and porous surfaces, including linear and quadratic pressure-velocity relations. The study proposes a solution method for motion response and wave forces simultaneously, and derives hydrodynamic identities and expressions for mean drift force for combined solid-porous bodies. The study shows that quadratic pressure drop leads to asymmetric hydrodynamic coefficients and modification of the Haskind relation.

Water wave scattering by impermeable and perforated plates

Hui Liang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the scattering of water waves by horizontal plates within the linear potential-flow theory framework, considering both impermeable and perforated plates. Utilizing wave interference effects from multiple plates can achieve large wave amplification, while deploying an array of elliptical plates aligned with the incident wave direction shows promise for harnessing wave energy. The study provides insight into utilizing water wave energy through horizontal plates.
