Discovery of single-atom alloy catalysts for CO2-to-methanol reaction by density functional theory calculations

Meng Li et al.

Summary: The transformation of CO2 into valuable products is an important field of research due to its impact on global warming. Single-atom alloy (SAA) catalysts have shown promising results in CO2 hydrogenation reactions. In this study, the authors used density functional theory (DFT) computations to screen Ru and 6 RuX (X = Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Ir and Pt) SAAs as potential catalysts. The formation of specific intermediates was found to play a critical role in determining the catalysts' activities, and the doping of Co and Pt single atoms into Ru surface was found to enhance the production of methanol.

Polypyrrole-bismuth selenide (PPY-Bi2Se3) composite-thermoelectric characterization and effect of nickel doping

Pinaki Mandal et al.

Summary: Conducting polymer based thermoelectric composites have attracted increasing attention in recent years due to their low cost, low thermal conductivity, durability, and flexibility. This study compares the performance of two composites, Polypyrrole-bismuth selenide (PPYBS) and polypyrrole-nickel doped bismuth selenide (PPYBSN), synthesized using solvothermal and chemical oxidative in situ polymerization techniques, for thermoelectric applications. The results show that compositing polymer with chalcogenides enhances the conductivity and thermoelectric figure of merit (ZT) of the materials. The analysis of the materials' structure and charge transfer processes using X-ray diffraction and density functional theory provides further insights into their properties.

A Z-scheme Cu2O/WO3 heterojunction for production of renewable hydrocarbon fuel from carbon dioxide

Jingyuan Hao et al.

Summary: The combination of copper and tungsten oxides forms an efficient catalytic system to reduce CO2 into renewable hydrocarbon fuel under visible-irradiation. Doping 15 wt% copper (II) oxide on tungsten oxide enhances light absorption and CO2 reduction efficiency. Improved photocatalytic activity of the heterojunction is attributed to enhanced separation and transfer of electron-hole pairs at the interface between copper and tungsten.

Muhammad Suleman Tahir et al.

Summary: In this study, p-n type heterojunction ZnFe2O4/TiO2 photocatalysts with different ratios were prepared and it was found that ZnFe2O4/TiO2 (1:1,5) exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity for CO2 reduction into methanol. The material showed characteristics of high crystallinity, purity, small particle size, absorption in visible light region, and low charge carrier recombination, contributing to the efficiency of methanol production.
