Antitumoral synergism between a copper(II) complex and cisplatin improves in vitro and in vivo anticancer activity against melanoma, lung and breast cancer cells

D. Mariani et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that coordination compound 1 showed cytotoxicity against cancer cells by inducing ROS generation and apoptosis. When combined with cisplatin, different synergistic effects were observed in various cancer cell lines. In xenograft models, treatment with compound 1 alone or co-administered with cisplatin successfully reduced tumor growth.

Fluorinated Cycloplatinated(II) Complexes Bearing Bisphosphine Ligands as Potent Anticancer Agents

Hamid R. Shahsavari et al.

Summary: Cationic cycloplatinated(II) complexes with bisphosphine ligands showed higher cytotoxicity compared to cisplatin across various cancer cell lines, especially complex 3 exhibiting excellent antiproliferative activity. The stability of these complexes in biological environments and their mode of interaction with DNA were also investigated.

Anticancer and antibacterial potential of robust Ruthenium(II) arene complexes regulated by choice of α-diimine and halide ligands

Emanuele Zanda et al.

Summary: The study found that certain ruthenium complexes exhibited remarkable stability in water and cell culture medium, showing strong cytotoxicity against cancer cell lines, with RUCYN being the most promising one with significant selectivity compared to non-cancerous cells. The variability of affinity of the complexes for BSA and DNA binding was determined, with certain complexes showing enhanced cell internalization and cytotoxicity at the expense of selectivity.

Mitochondrial Superoxide Dismutase in Cisplatin-Induced Kidney Injury

Kranti A. Mapuskar et al.

Summary: Cisplatin is a widely used chemotherapy agent with potent anti-tumor activity, but it can cause renal injuries, leading to the need for intervention strategies to reduce kidney damage. In addition to DNA cross-linking, cisplatin affects mitochondrial metabolism, resulting in reactive oxygen species production and renal damage. Mitochondrial superoxide dismutase mimetics show potential in preventing platinum-associated nephrotoxicity.

The impact of cyclometalated and phosphine ligands on the luminescence properties of cycloplatinated(II) complexes: photophysical and theoretical investigations

Hamid R. Shahsavari et al.

Summary: The synthesis and characterization of a series of cycloplatinated(II) complexes, as well as their photophysical properties and electronic transitions, were investigated in this study. The phosphine-containing dfppy derivatives exhibit dual emission bands in the solid state and have higher quantum yield values compared to ppy analogs. Complexes with PPh(2)py show stronger emissions than those containing PPh3.
