Visible-light-mediated oxidative C-S bond cleavage of benzyl thiols through in situ activation strategy

Boseok Hong et al.

Summary: A novel method for the oxidative C-S bond cleavage of benzyl thiols has been developed, where in situ-activated silver species enables the controlled bond cleavage of benzyl thiols to yield aldehydes and ketones without the need for a photocatalyst. The desired carbonyl compounds were obtained through two different reaction pathways under mild reaction conditions.

Synthesis of Indenone Derivatives by Rh(III)-Catalyzed C-H Functionalization of Sulfoxonium Ylides with 1,3-Diynes

Sanjeev Kumar et al.

Summary: Here, we report the Rh(III)-catalyzed C-H activation followed by redox-neutral [3 + 2] annulation of sulfoxonium ylides with 1,3-diynes, delivering alkynated indenone derivatives. This method shows a broad substrate scope, good functional group tolerance, and mild reaction conditions.

Ni-Catalyzed Larock Indenone Annulation with Aliphatic- and Silyl-Substituted Alkynes Supported by Mechanistic Analysis

Hannah M. Hynds et al.

Summary: A new method for synthesizing indenones using a nickel-catalyzed annulation reaction is reported. The reaction shows high yields and regioselectivities when using aliphatic- and silyl-substituted alkynes, which have been challenging and underutilized substrate classes. Mechanistic observations aided in the development of this reaction, and the researchers anticipate that these methods will be quickly adopted due to their synthetic ease and versatility.

Mechanochemical Solvent-Free Synthesis of Indenones from Aromatic Carboxylic Acids and Alkynes

Liang Li et al.

Summary: The solvent-free mechanochemical synthesis of indenones from aromatic carboxylic acids and alkynes was achieved through triflic anhydride (Tf2O)-induced cyclization reaction. Various indenones, including a bioactive PPAR gamma agonist, were obtained in up to 90% yield at room temperature. This protocol offers mild reaction conditions, high reaction efficiency, and scalability, providing a simple and sustainable route to diverse indenones.
