Abnormal amygdala functional connectivity in MDD patients with insomnia complaints

Yanxiang Ye et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the potential mechanisms between insomnia and depression based on amygdala-based resting-state functional connectivity. The results showed that there were differences in clinical features and brain functional connectivity between the MDD-HI and MDD-LI groups. These findings provide new evidence for understanding the potential mechanisms of major depression and insomnia.

In vivo structural connectome of arousal and motor brainstem nuclei by 7 Tesla and 3 Tesla MRI

Maria Guadalupe Garcia-Gomar et al.

Summary: This study used a newly developed probabilistic brainstem nuclei atlas and high-field MRI to establish the structural connectomes of arousal and motor brainstem nuclei in living humans. The results showed high connectivity within brainstem nuclei and with expected subcortical and cortical structures based on animal studies. The findings suggest the potential use of the structural connectome as a baseline for studying arousal and motor functions in health and disease in humans.

Prefrontal Cortical Connectivity Mediates Locus Coeruleus Noradrenergic Regulation of Inhibitory Control in Older Adults

Alessandro Tomassini et al.

Summary: This study confirms the association between locus coeruleus integrity and response inhibition ability using MRI imaging. It also demonstrates that the connectivity between presupplementary motor area (preSMA) and right inferior frontal gyrus (rIFG) plays a mediating role in this association. These findings suggest that the locus coeruleus noradrenergic system regulates inhibitory control in healthy individuals.

Associated factors and abnormal dorsal raphe nucleus connectivity patterns of freezing of gait in Parkinson's disease

Lingling Lv et al.

Summary: This study found that the severity of Parkinson's disease and the PIGD clinical phenotype are associated with freezing of gait, and dysfunction in the dorsal raphe nucleus may play a key role in nonmotor symptoms and freezing of gait in Parkinson's disease. Abnormal cortical and brainstem networks may contribute to the mechanisms underlying freezing of gait.
