Four of five frequently used orthopedic PROMs possess inadequate content validity: a COSMIN evaluation of the mHHS, HAGOS, IKDC-SKF, KOOS and KNEES-ACL

Christian Fugl Hansen et al.

Summary: Content validity is crucial for Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs). A study evaluated the content validity of five relevant PROMs used in musculoskeletal research. Only the KNEES-ACL PROM was found to have sufficient content validity, while the other four PROMs were rated as having inadequate content validity. Development of condition-specific PROMs for musculoskeletal conditions with proper methods is urgently needed.

The memory assessment clinics scale for epilepsy (MAC-E): A brief measure of subjective cognitive complaints in epilepsy

Margaret Miller et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate subjective memory complaints in patients with epilepsy using the Memory Assessment Clinics Self-Rating Scale (MAC-S) and to create a shorter version - the Memory Assessment Clinics Scale for Epilepsy (MAC-E). Through various analyses, a five-factor structure was identified and the MAC-E was reduced from 49 to 30 items.

Systematic review of subjective memory measures to inform assessing memory limitations after stroke and stroke-related aphasia

Christos Salis et al.

Summary: This systematic review aimed to identify and assess subjective memory measures used in stroke and stroke-related aphasia studies, in order to investigate their psychometric properties and methodological quality, as well as their correlation with objective memory measures. The study revealed shortcomings in the critical appraisal of these measures and the representation of neurotypical participants in the included studies. The unclear picture provided by the literature domain highlights the need for further research on the impact of memory limitations on participation in stroke and stroke-related aphasia.

Hippocampal volume is more related to patient-reported memory than objective memory performance in early multiple sclerosis

Lisa Glukhovsky et al.

Summary: The study found that subjective memory decline in early MS patients is more strongly related to hippocampal and its subfield volumes than objective memory performance. Subjective memory may be more sensitive to subtle disease-related changes and could be a better indicator of within-person memory change in everyday life compared to objective tests.

Content Validity of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures of Satisfaction With Primary Care for Musculoskeletal Complaints: A Systematic Review

Sylvia Pellekooren et al.

Summary: This research evaluates the content validity of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) used to assess satisfaction in patients with musculoskeletal complaints treated in primary care. The study identified seven PROMs, but found that the content validity of patient satisfaction PROMs was insufficient and supported by very low-quality evidence. Future studies should focus on improving the relevance, comprehensiveness, and comprehensibility of PROMs used to measure patient satisfaction.

Reciprocal burden: Adults with drug-resistant epilepsy reflect upon informal caregiver support

Sandra R. Dewar et al.

Summary: The study found that people with epilepsy face unique challenges and require supportive care to deal with unpredictable seizures. Subjective reflections around care-receiving and caregiving are often experienced as mutually burdensome. Relationship dynamics play a key role in treatment decision making.
