Does erythropoietin affect the outcome and complication rates of patient with traumatic brain injury? A pooled-analysis

Yuping Li et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis reviewed 10 randomized controlled trials on the efficacy and safety of erythropoietin (EPO) for traumatic brain injury (TBI), finding that EPO can reduce mortality rate in TBI patients without significant impact on good functional outcomes. EPO has potential value for further research and application in TBI treatment.

Elevation of Pro-inflammatory and Anti-inflammatory Cytokines in Rat Serum after Acute Methamphetamine Treatment and Traumatic Brain Injury

Firas H. Kobeissy et al.

Summary: The use of methamphetamine (METH) leads to neurotoxic effects on the dopaminergic and serotonergic systems of the brain, while also sharing common cell injury mechanisms with traumatic brain injury (TBI), involving elevated levels of inflammatory-linked cytokines such as IL-1 beta, IL-6, and IL-10. This suggests that METH use is a stressor to the immune system and systemic involvement of an altered cytokine profile may play a critical role in mediating chemical brain injury after METH use.

β-Blockers for traumatic brain injury: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Huaqiang Ding et al.

Summary: This study found that administration of beta-blockers after TBI significantly reduced in-hospital mortality and improved long-term functional outcomes, with no significant cardiopulmonary adverse events observed. Therefore, the use of beta-blockers may be recommended in the care of TBI patients.
