BMSC-derived extracellular matrix better optimizes the microenvironment to support nerve regeneration

Shengran Wang et al.

Summary: A favorable microenvironment is crucial for nerve regeneration. This study investigates the components and spatial organization of extracellular matrix (ECM) secreted by different cells and finds that ECM derived from bone marrow mesenchymal cells (BMSCs) is more similar to acellular nerves. ECM-modified nerve grafts (ECM-NGs) co-cultivated with BMSCs exhibit the most promising nerve repair properties and create a superior microenvironment for nerve regeneration, indicating a potential alternative for clinical repair of peripheral nerve defects.

Robust temporal changes of cellular senescence and proliferation after sciatic nerve injury

Yin-Ying Shen et al.

Summary: Cellular senescence and proliferation are essential for wound healing and tissue remodeling. This study analyzed gene expression patterns in rat sciatic nerve stumps and dorsal root ganglia after injury to reveal the genetic changes associated with cellular senescence and proliferation. The study found that cellular senescence and proliferation were less vigorous in the dorsal root ganglia compared to the sciatic nerve stumps.

Hypocapnia Stimuli-Responsive Engineered Exosomes Delivering miR-218 Facilitate Sciatic Nerve Regeneration

Yingshuai Wang et al.

Summary: This study explores the application of miRNAs and exosomes in peripheral nerve regeneration and finds that a hypocapnia environment can enhance exosome function. By delivering miR-218 through engineered exosomes, sciatic nerve regeneration can be facilitated, and hypocapnia stimuli-responsive exosomes show better results.

Evaluation of Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy for Peripheral Nerve Regeneration: A Critical Review of Literature

Sulong Wang et al.

Summary: Peripheral nerve injury (PNI) is a common disease that leads to slow tissue regeneration and loss of nerve function. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP), a bioactive substance, can accelerate tissue regeneration by releasing growth factors. PRP has wide clinical applications and shows potential for peripheral nerve regeneration.

Application of bioactive hydrogels combined with dental pulp stem cells for the repair of large gap peripheral nerve injuries

Lihua Luo et al.

Summary: By optimizing the scaffold material synthesis protocol, a third-generation nerve regeneration conduit CSM-GFD was constructed and applied for repairing a 15-mm long defect of the sciatic nerve in a rat model. At histologic and physical levels, the conduit regenerated nerve tissue and achieved functional recovery, showing promising potential as a tissue engineering approach for treating large gap defects in peripheral nerve injuries.

The balanced microenvironment regulated by the degradants of appropriate PLGA scaffolds and chitosan conduit promotes peripheral nerve regeneration

Panjian Lu et al.

Summary: Research suggests that an appropriate amount of PLGA scaffolds can promote successful nerve regeneration, contributing to aspects such as the structure of the regenerated nerve, reinnervation of the target muscle, and Schwann cell migration and maturation. Additionally, the correct ratio of PLGA and chitosan degradation products helps reduce inflammatory response and enhance the regeneration microenvironment.
