Cellular Heterogeneity in Adipose Tissues

Silvia Corvera

Summary: Adipose tissue consists of heterogeneous cell populations, including mature adipocytes, progenitors, endothelial cells, and various immune cell types, which work together to regulate tissue development and functions. Recent advances in genetic lineage tracing and transcriptomics have revealed new insights into the roles of progenitor subtypes and monocytes/macrophages in adipose tissue metabolism and metabolic disease. These studies provide valuable data for exploring similarities and differences among experimental models and enhancing our understanding of the complex mechanisms of adipose tissues.

A suite of new Dre recombinase drivers markedly expands the ability to perform intersectional genetic targeting

Ximeng Han et al.

Summary: The study developed over 70 new intersectional drivers to better target diverse cell lineages, expanding the application of the dual recombinase-mediated intersectional genetic approach. Using these new tools, it was found that perivascular progenitors are the endogenous progenitors of adult adipocytes. Additionally, these new drivers can more specifically knock out genes in complex tissues.

Aged skeletal stem cells generate an inflammatory degenerative niche

Thomas H. Ambrosi et al.

Summary: Aging of skeletal stem cells in mice alters bone marrow signaling and differentiation of bone and blood lineages, resulting in fragile bones with poor regeneration. Aged SSCs have decreased bone-forming potential but produce more stromal lineages expressing pro-inflammatory cytokines, contributing to bone marrow niche transformation.
