Kinematics of Parsec-scale Jets of Gamma-Ray Blazars at 43 GHz during 10 yr of the VLBA-BU-BLAZAR Program

Zachary R. Weaver et al.

Summary: We analyze the parsec-scale jet kinematics of a sample of gamma-ray bright blazars monitored over 11 years. The study reveals the presence of both moving and stationary components in the jets, as well as nonballistic motion. Furthermore, the study finds a connection between the gamma-ray states of the blazars and their jet properties.

Testing particle acceleration models for BL Lac jets with the Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer

L. Di Gesu et al.

Summary: This study simulated the X-ray polarization properties of high synchrotron peak blazars (HSP) observed by the Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) to determine its ability to track the polarization variations caused by different particle acceleration mechanisms. The results showed that IXPE can detect the time variability predicted by popular models for particle acceleration in jets, as long as the data is sliced into adequately short time bins.

RoboPol: AGN polarimetric monitoring data

D. Blinov et al.

Summary: This study presents uniformly reprocessed and re-calibrated data from the RoboPol programme of optopolarimetric monitoring of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) between 2013 and 2017, covering a total of 5068 observations of 222 AGNs with Dec. > -25(circle). The current version of the RoboPol pipeline used to process and calibrate the entire data set is described, with average quantities summarizing optopolarimetric behaviour provided for each source observed and for the time interval followed.

Long-term multi-band photometric monitoring of Mrk501

Axel Arbet-Engels et al.

Summary: The study found a sub-day lag between variability in TeV and X-ray emissions, simultaneous variations in TeV and X-ray with almost zero lag are consistent with synchrotron self-Compton emission, and the characteristic time interval between TeV flares of 5-25 days suggests they may be driven by Lense-Thirring precession.

Inherent and Local Magnetic Field Structures in Jets from Active Galactic Nuclei

Denise C. Gabuzda

Summary: Research shows that jets from active galactic nuclei carry helical magnetic fields, making it challenging to distinguish between these fields and locally generated fields. However, circular-polarization observations may help reconstruct the full three-dimensional B field of these jets carrying a helical component.

Frequency and Time Dependence of Linear Polarization in Turbulent Jets of Blazars

Alan P. Marscher et al.

Summary: Time-variable polarization is a valuable tool for studying the physical conditions of blazar jets, with observations showing similarities to simulations of turbulent plasma in relativistic jets. Monitoring the flux and linear polarization of gamma-ray bright blazars at optical frequencies since 2008 has provided insights into the frequency and time dependence of polarization, which will also be useful for predicting future X-ray synchrotron polarization measurements by IXPE.

Reconnection-driven Particle Acceleration in Relativistic Shear Flows

Lorenzo Sironi et al.

Summary: Investigating particle energization in shear flows, we found that Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities in their nonlinear stages generate kinetic-scale reconnection layers that efficiently energize jet particles, providing a first-principles mechanism for particle injection into shear-driven acceleration. Our work supports spine-sheath models of jet emission and explains the origin of radio-emitting electrons at the boundaries of relativistic jets.
