Source Properties and Resonance Characteristics of the Tsunami Generated by the 2021 M 8.2 Alaska Earthquake

Yuchen Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, the source properties and resonance characteristics of the tsunami triggered by the 2021 Alaska earthquake were investigated using observed records and numerical simulation. The findings show that the Aleutian Islands act as a barrier to the propagation of tsunami oscillations.

Estimating the eruption-induced water displacement source of the 15 January 2022 Tonga volcanic tsunami from tsunami spectra and numerical modelling

Mohammad Heidarzadeh et al.

Summary: The 15 January 2022 Tonga volcanic tsunami was a unique event where waves were created by a dual-mechanism generation process involving atmospheric pressure waves and eruption-induced water displacements. The study found that the maximum overall coastal tide gauge amplitudes ranged from 4.2 to 148.8 cm, while DARTs recorded maximum amplitudes of 3.6 to 21.4 cm.

A multi-hazard risk model with cascading failure pathways for the Dawlish (UK) railway using historical and contemporary data

Keith Adams et al.

Summary: The failure of the crucial economic railway link between London and the southwest of the UK in 2014 storm chain resulted in up to ?1.2bn of economic losses, highlighting the need to understand the cascading nature of multi hazards involved in storm damage. This study focused on the Dawlish railway, analyzing 29 major events to identify the most frequent damage mechanisms and develop a five-layer risk model for the railway, showing the sequence of failures and the potential for network failure.
