Activating MoS2 Nanoflakes via Sulfur Defect Engineering Wrapped on CNTs for Stable and Efficient Li-O2 Batteries

Deyuan Li et al.

Summary: The core-shell MoS2-x@CNTs composite synthesized in this work exhibits superior catalytic performance in Li-O-2 batteries due to surface engineering strategy and core-shell structure design. The redistributed charge on sulfur-defective MoS2 nanoflakes and the high conductivity and large surface area of the CNT network provide excellent performance for the composite cathode in accommodating volume changes during cycling. This work offers insights into advanced catalysts and has great potential for catalyst structural engineering in LOBs.

Impact of ion beam irradiation on two-dimensional MoS2: a molecular dynamics simulation study

Xin Wu et al.

Summary: This research used classical molecular dynamics simulations to study the effects of ion beam irradiation on 2D MoS2 materials, including sputtering behavior, defect formation, and control rules. The study also considered the influence of ion irradiation parameters and substrate. Furthermore, the mechanical performance of ion-irradiated nanostructures under mechanical stress/strain was investigated.

Visualizing Grain Statistics in MOCVD WSe2 through Four-Dimensional Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy

Alejandra Londono-Calderon et al.

Summary: Using four-dimensional scanning transmission electron microscopy, researchers visualized the grains and grain boundaries in WSe2 grown by metal organic chemical vapor deposition. The study reveals a high density of small grains and the overall selenium deficiency in the grown WSe2. Furthermore, reconstruction of grain information helps understand the nucleation mechanism for new layers.

Phase transition of a MoS2 monolayer through top layer desulfurization by He+ ion irradiation

Sang Wook Han et al.

Summary: This study investigates the structural and electronic changes of MoS2 monolayer by removing the top sulfur layer. It reveals that the substoichiometric MoSx surface induces a transition from semiconducting to metallic phase, while the oxidized MoSx surface restores a semiconducting state with narrowed bandgap or possibly a semimetallic state. These findings provide insights into improving the functionality of monolayer materials.

Photodetectors of 2D Materials from Ultraviolet to Terahertz Waves

Qinxi Qiu et al.

Summary: 2D materials are considered promising for photodetectors due to their unique properties, but limitations such as low quantum efficiency, noise, and slow response are caused by their thinness. Current research focuses on improving the performance of 2D material photodetectors, but balancing sensitivity and response speed remains challenging.

Site-Controlled Quantum Emitters in Monolayer MoSe2

Leo Yu et al.

Summary: Atomically thin semiconductors offer an attractive platform for quantum emitters, although reported quantum emitters in these materials have relied on spin-forbidden transitions. By employing strain confinement in monolayer MoSe2, engineered quantum emitters with radiative rates exceeding those of other solid-state systems have been produced.

Site-controlled telecom-wavelength single-photon emitters in atomically-thin MoTe2

Huan Zhao et al.

Summary: Researchers have successfully created telecom quantum emitters emitting in the telecommunication wavelength range by coupling 2D molybdenum ditelluride (MoTe2) to strain inducing nano-pillar arrays. The experiments show clear photon antibunching with 90% single-photon purity at 77K, and also reveal additional phenomena such as valley Zeeman splitting and restoring of valley symmetry in cross-polarized doublets under a magnetic field of 8T.
