The mechanism of organic radical oxidation catalysed by gold nanoparticles

Viacheslav Shcherbakov et al.

Summary: Metal nanoparticles can catalyze reactions involving organic free radicals. This study investigated the catalytic activity of gold nanoparticles in two oxidation reactions, revealing unexpected results due to the presence of oxygen and nanoparticles in the reaction mechanisms.

Experimental determination of the curvature-induced intra-wall polarization of inorganic nanotubes

Marie-Claire Pignie et al.

Summary: The study explored the photocatalytic potential of two synthetic imogolites, which showed promising properties for water splitting and other relevant photocatalytic reactions. The determination of the potential difference between the walls of imogolite as 0.7V for IMO-OH and around 0.2V for IMO-CH3, along with their high curvature and thin wall, favor efficient charge separation and reactions. Their valence and conduction band edges make them interesting candidates for co-catalysts or doped catalysts in various photocatalytic reactions related to energy and the environment.

Confined water radiolysis in aluminosilicate nanotubes: the importance of charge separation effects

Marie-Claire Pignie et al.

Summary: Imogolite nanotubes exhibit curvature-induced, efficient charge separation under irradiation, with electrons driven outward in the presence of very few external water molecules, leading to the formation of quasi-free electrons and ultimately dihydrogen. As the water content increases, electron solvation becomes more dominant, resulting in dihydrogen production to a lesser extent compared to quasi-free electrons. This study demonstrates the potential of imogolite nanotubes as co-photocatalysts due to their spontaneous charge separation behavior.
