Spectroscopy and Structural Investigation of Iron Phosphorus Trisulfide-FePS3

Adam K. Budniak et al.

Summary: Lamellar structures of transition metal phosphorus trisulfides have strong intralayer bonding and weak van der Waals interactions, leading to unique optical and long-range magnetic properties. This study successfully grew large FePS3 crystals and identified their crystallographic structure and composition using advanced electron microscopy techniques. Temperature-dependent experiments revealed the correlation between optical behavior and magnetic phase transition.

Strong Neel Ordering and Luminescence Correlation in a Two-Dimensional Antiferromagnet

Yongheng Zhou et al.

Summary: Magneto-optical effect is widely used in various applications, and the discovery of 2D van der Waals layered magnets has opened up new possibilities for investigating magneto-optical phenomena. However, the low luminescence efficiency of most 2D antiferromagnets has hindered their applications. This study uncovers strong light-magnetic ordering interactions in 2D antiferromagnetic MnPS3 and demonstrates their correlation with Neel ordering using a newly-emerged near-infrared photoluminescence mode.

Contaminant-Free Wafer-Scale Assembled h-BN/Graphene van der Waals Heterostructures for Graphene Field-Effect Transistors

Xuedong Gao et al.

Summary: A large-scale assembly method for h-BN/graphene van der Waals heterostructure with clean interfaces has been demonstrated in this study. Graphene in the heterostructure shows properties close to its intrinsic properties without annealing. Graphene field-effect transistors fabricated with h-BN/graphene heterostructures exhibit high carrier mobility and good performance. This work provides a potential solution for the commercial production of graphene-based electronic devices.

Magnetic anisotropy and exchange interactions of two-dimensional FePS3, NiPS3 and MnPS3 from first principles calculations

Thomas Olsen

Summary: FePS3, NiPS3, and MnPS3 are van der Waals bonded transition metal phosphorous trichalcogenides that have attracted attention for their potential exfoliation into monolayers. Despite similar electronic structures, subtle differences in exchange and magnetic anisotropy result in different magnetic structures, making them ideal for studying various aspects of 2D magnetism. The study highlights the significant impact of the Hubbard parameter U choice on calculations and reveals the underestimation of anisotropy parameters by density functional theory.

Chiral Phonons and Giant Magneto-Optical Effect in CrBr3 2D Magnet

Tingting Yin et al.

Summary: This study reveals the existence of chiral phonons in 2D magnetic CrBr3, which can completely switch the polarization of incident light, and non-chiral A(g) phonons exhibit significant magneto-optical effects under an external magnetic field. These results lay a foundation for further studies on phonon chirality and magneto-optical phenomena in 2D magnetic materials.
