Nanomedicines with chemical activity have great potential as therapeutic agents in various biomedical fields. The idea of bioinspired design has provided guidance for designing and manufacturing nanomedicines with high chemical activity and desired therapeutic outcomes. This review focuses on nanomedicines inspired by structures of natural active components, with a particular emphasis on the recent development of metal-organic framework (MOF)-based bioinspired nanomedicines.
Nanomedicines with chemical activity have emerged as very promising therapeutic agents in various biomedical fields, including photodynamic therapy, sonodynamic therapy, and nanozymes-based catalytic therapy. In recent years, the idea of bioinspired design provides a vital guide for the design and manufacture of nanomedicines with high chemical activity and desired therapeutic outcome. This review mainly focuses on the nanomedicines inspired by structures of natural active components. As the most typical re-presentative, an overview of the recent development of metal-organic framework (MOF)-based bioinspired nanomedicines is given. The design strategies, classification and biomedical applications of MOF-based bioinspired nanomedicines are covered, and the major challenges and some development directions are discussed.(c) 2022 Elsevier Ltd.
