Vapor-Phase Living Assembly of π-Conjugated Organic Semiconductors

Tao Hai et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the living assembly of hydrophobic pi-conjugated materials using a microspacing physical vapor transport technique. By using organic semiconductor microrods as seeds, controlled growth and formation of heterostructures are achieved. The method is applicable to various binary combinations as well as more complex penta- and hepta-block heterostructures.

Multicomponent Molecular Assembly of Fluorescent Organic Semiconductors Beyond Three Compounds

Panpan Zhao et al.

Summary: In this study, a combinatorial library of organic microcrystals made of four components was successfully assembled via a solution-phase assembly route. This allowed for precise control of the dimensions, polymorphisms, and emission colors of binary alloyed assemblies and microscale heterostructures. The structural relationships and miscibility of binary combinations were systematically studied, revealing diverse microscale architectures and energy transfer efficiencies. By utilizing the information from binary combinations, white-light-emitting ternary microsheets were modulated in a predictable manner. These findings expand the boundaries of molecular self-assembly and have potential applications in achieving integrated optoelectronic properties.

Hyperbranched Microwire Networks of Organic Cocrystals with Optical Waveguiding and Light-Harvesting Abilities

Zuofang Feng et al.

Summary: This study discusses the synthesis of hyperbranched organic microwire networks through a simple solution co-assembly route, resulting in highly aligned and well-connected MW networks with superior optical waveguiding ability. BA acts as an intermediate product to facilitate the regeneration of binary cocrystals, leading to the formation of complex MW arrays during the epitaxial growth process.

Organic multicomponent microparticle libraries

Dandan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study presents a library of microparticles composed of an arbitrary combination of four luminescent organic semiconductors, demonstrating that the composition and emission color of each domain can be rationally modulated based on component miscibility. Unary, binary, ternary, and quaternary microparticles with mixed-composition phases or alloyed/phase separated heterostructures are predicted in a predictable manner.

Cauliflower fractal forms arise from perturbations of floral gene networks

Eugenio Azpeitia et al.

Summary: This study reveals that the fractal-like forms in cauliflowers emerge from the combination of key, defined perturbations of floral developmental programs and growth dynamics. The self-similarity of curds is due to meristems failing to form flowers but retaining the memory of their floral state. Additional mutations affecting meristem growth can induce the production of conical structures reminiscent of the Romanesco shape.
