Competing correlated states around the zero-field Wigner crystallization transition of electrons in two dimensions

J. Falson et al.

Summary: The study investigates low-temperature phases of strongly interacting electrons using zinc oxide-based two-dimensional electron systems, revealing correlated metallic and insulating states, non-monotonic spin polarizability, and a significant positive magnetoresistance. These findings establish zinc oxide as a platform for studying strongly correlated electrons in two dimensions.

Bilayer WSe2 as a natural platform for interlayer exciton condensates in the strong coupling limit

Qianhui Shi et al.

Summary: Exciton condensates are macroscopic coherent states formed by the condensation of electron-hole pairs. Bilayer heterostructures provide a platform for studying and realizing exciton condensates, but the separation between layers limits the strength of exciton binding. This study observes exciton condensates in naturally occurring bilayer WSe2 and investigates their properties using capacitance spectroscopy.

Quantum anomalous Hall effect from intertwined moire bands

Tingxin Li et al.

Summary: This study reveals the observation of quantum anomalous Hall effect in AB-stacked MoTe2/WSe2 moire heterobilayers, which exhibits unique band topology characteristics. At half band filling, quantized Hall resistance and vanishing longitudinal resistance are observed, indicating a topological phase transition induced by an out-of-plane electric field.

Fractional Chern insulators in magic-angle twisted bilayer graphene

Yonglong Xie et al.

Summary: Fractional Chern insulators (FCIs) are lattice analogues of fractional quantum Hall states and have been recently observed in magic-angle twisted BLG at low magnetic field. The appearance of these states at 5 T is accompanied by the disappearance of nearby topologically trivial charge density wave states.

Correlated insulating states at fractional fillings of the WS2/WSe2 moire lattice

Xiong Huang et al.

Summary: Correlated insulating states at fractional fillings of moire minibands have been observed in angle-aligned WS2/WSe2 hetero-bilayers, indicating a surprisingly strong and long-range interaction beyond the nearest neighbors.

Odd Integer Quantum Hall States with Interlayer Coherence in Twisted Bilayer Graphene

Youngwook Kim et al.

Summary: The study investigates the quantum Hall effect in two stacked graphene layers rotated by 2 degrees. It found that the tunneling strength among the layers can be varied from weak to strong via the mechanism of magnetic breakdown when tuning the density. The presence of odd-integer quantum Hall physics in the regime of suppressed tunneling for balanced layer densities suggests the role of Coulomb interaction induced interlayer coherence and Bose-Einstein condensation of excitons.
