Previous studies have identified eight genotypes of this fungus, but recent isolates have been predominantly of one genotype. Furthermore, the isolates remain susceptible to the antifungal drug terbinafine, suggesting its continued effectiveness in controlling the epidemic of this fungus.

Summary: This article describes the new method released by the European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing Subcommittee on Antifungal Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST-AFST) for antifungal susceptibility testing against microconidia-forming dermatophytes. The method is based on the EUCAST microdilution method for moulds with significant alterations to accommodate dermatophytes, and has been validated for several antifungal drugs against Trichophyton rubrum and T. interdigitale.

A systematic review of worldwide data on tinea capitis: analysis of the last 20 years

Summary: Our review found that the frequency of different aetiologic agents of TC varied globally, with Microsporum canis being the most frequent reported zoophilic agent worldwide, and Trichophyton violaceum and Trichophyton tonsurans the predominant anthropophilic agents. Factors such as socioeconomic status and intercontinental migration are major contributors to the transmission of dermatophyte infections. Globalization, environmental changes, and technological advancements also play a role in shaping the epidemiology of TC.

Trichophyton tonsurans-an emerging pathogen in wrestling in Germany

Summary: Trichophyton tonsurans is the main causative agent of tinea gladiatorum in contact sports, leading to recurrent outbreaks. In a national wrestling squad, dermatophytoses were frequently found in children and adolescents, confirmed by mycological examination and PCR. Environmental investigations in the training center revealed T. tonsurans growth on mats and floors, along with susceptibility to terbinafine in in vitro testing.
