A prospective study on vulvovaginal candidiasis: multicentre molecular epidemiology of pathogenic yeasts in China

N. Song et al.

Summary: This study found that C. albicans is still the main cause of VVC in China, with the majority of C. albicans isolates belonging to Clade 1. The two most common diploid sequence types are DST 79 and DST 45. Additionally, the New Clade identified in this study appears to be specific to northern China.

Possible misdiagnosis, inappropriate empiric treatment, and opportunities for increased diagnostic testing for patients with vulvovaginal candidiasis-United States, 2018

Kaitlin Benedict et al.

Summary: Vulvovaginal candidiasis is a common problem in the United States, but its diagnosis and treatment practices are often inaccurate. There are low frequencies of diagnostic testing and high rates of antifungal and antibacterial use, indicating a need for improved clinical care and antimicrobial stewardship.

Survey of incidence, lifetime prevalence, and treatment of self-reported vulvovaginal candidiasis, United States, 2020

Kaitlin Benedict et al.

Summary: Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) is a common infection in the US, and this study provides insights into its incidence and prevalence, as well as risk factors associated with VVC. The findings indicate that most women with VVC use prescription antifungal treatment, but a significant proportion also use over-the-counter medication.

Molecular Epidemiology, Antifungal Susceptibility, and Virulence Evaluation of Candida Isolates Causing Invasive Infection in a Tertiary Care Teaching Hospital

Junzhu Chen et al.

Summary: This study evaluated invasive candidiasis in a tertiary care hospital in Nanchang City, China, focusing on the epidemiology, pathogenicity, and antifungal susceptibility of Candida strains. The results showed that Candida albicans and C. parapsilosis were sensitive to echinocandins, while C. glabrata showed resistance to this class of antifungals. Additionally, the virulence levels of Candida isolates did not correlate with their specimen sources or clusters.
