On the constraints of galaxy assembly bias in velocity space

Kevin Spencer McCarthy et al.

Summary: This study extends the investigation of galaxy assembly bias from real space to redshift (velocity) space, using halo occupation distribution modeling to explore the galaxy-halo connection between early- and late-forming galaxies. It finds a potential large amplitude of velocity bias for early-forming central galaxies, suggesting the presence of an assembly bias effect. Further research with larger samples and improved modeling is needed to reach a definitive conclusion.

Automated galaxy-galaxy strong lens modelling: No lens left behind

Amy Etherington et al.

Summary: The authors develop an automatic Bayesian method to fit lens models for 59 galaxy lenses imaged by the Hubble Space Telescope. They focus on adjusting the pipeline to achieve accurate fits for all lenses and establish the most challenging steps in the process. The method shows a high-success rate and provides a new approach to error estimation.

Dynamical evidence for a morphology-dependent relation between the stellar and halo masses of galaxies

L. Posti et al.

Summary: By analyzing the near-infrared luminosities and globular cluster systems of early-type galaxies, a declining trend in the stellar-to-halo mass relation with mass, peaking at a specific point, has been observed. This result aligns with the standard relation derived for the general population of galaxies, but differs significantly from the relation for late-type galaxies. The differences between early-type and late-type galaxies can be attributed to the distinct formation processes of galactic discs and spheroids.

The observable supernova rate in galaxy-galaxy lensing systems with the TESS satellite

B. W. Holwerda et al.

Summary: TESS is a new exoplanet survey satellite that aims to detect supernovae and utilize gravitational lensing to measure the Hubble constant independently. Approximately 16 Type Ia supernovae and 43 core-collapse supernovae are expected to be observable each year, with efficient detection rates at the ecliptic poles.

The cosmological dependence of halo and galaxy assembly bias

S. Contreras et al.

Summary: The study finds that both halo and galaxy assembly bias show very small dependence on cosmology, with fluctuations less than 0.05 dex across different cosmologies. The signal's dependence on galaxy formation parameters is much stronger, indicating that the influence of cosmology on assembly bias is practically negligible.

The origin of galaxy colour bimodality in the scatter of the stellar-to-halo mass relation

Weiguang Cui et al.

Summary: A sophisticated suite of cosmological simulations reveals that the interplay between cold gas growth and active galactic nuclei feedback can explain the bimodality in galaxy colors, with galaxies residing in haloes of different mass depending on their color. The Simba simulation quantitatively reproduces this bimodality by showing an inverse relationship between halo formation time and galaxy transition time, highlighting the role of intrinsic cold gas content variations. This bimodality is rooted in the interplay between cold gas growth and quenching from active galactic nuclei, where input physics such as jet-mode and X-ray feedback play crucial roles.
