CMB-S4: Forecasting Constraints on Primordial Gravitational Waves

Kevork Abazajian et al.

Summary: CMB-S4 is the next-generation ground-based cosmic microwave background (CMB) experiment, designed to improve the sensitivity of CMB measurements and enhance our understanding of the origin and evolution of the universe. This study presents a forecasting framework that uses a power-spectrum-based semianalytic projection tool to optimize constraints on the tensor-to-scalar ratio. The framework is unique in its use of information from current CMB experiments to predict the effectiveness of future CMB-polarization endeavors. The study also includes map-based validation studies, allowing for additional complexity and independent verification of the forecasts.

Full-sky, Arcminute-scale, 3D Models of Galactic Microwave Foreground Dust Emission Based on Filaments

Carlos Hervias-Caimapo et al.

Summary: The DUSTFILAMENTS code is developed as a model for the millimeter Galactic emission of thermal dust, accurately reproducing the main features of dust angular power spectra. Composed of millions of filaments imperfectly aligned with the magnetic field, the model can simulate the characteristics of Galactic dust on different scales.

Dust moments: towards a new modeling of the galactic dust emission for CMB B-modes analysis

A. Mangilli et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the spectral energy distribution of dust emission and its significance in the quest for primordial B-modes, expanding the dust SED at the power spectrum level to address uncertainties in current approximations. High-order moments are demonstrated to be essential for fitting the Planck data accurately, highlighting the importance of understanding spatial variations in MBB parameters for future CMB B-mode experiments.

Evidence for line-of-sight frequency decorrelation of polarized dust emission in Planck data

V Pelgrims et al.

Summary: This study presents evidence for LOS frequency decorrelation in Planck data, utilizing HI emission measurements to detect this phenomenon. The detection of LOS frequency decorrelation at high Galactic latitudes in polarized data is significant, attributed to a combination of frequency variation in polarization angle and depolarization effects.

The Dielectric Function of Astrodust and Predictions for Polarization in the 3.4 and 10 μm Features

B. T. Draine et al.

Summary: The dielectric function of interstellar dust material is modeled using observations of extinction and polarization in the infrared, assuming a mixture of amorphous silicates and hydrocarbons. Detailed shape of the 10 μm polarization profile depends on assumed porosity and grain shape, but data are not yet sufficient to favor one shape or constrain porosity. Predicted 3.4 μm polarization feature is consistent with existing upper limits, suggesting no separate population of non-aligned carbonaceous grains is required.

Peeling off foregrounds with the constrained moment ILC method to unveil primordial CMB B modes

Mathieu Remazeilles et al.

Summary: This work introduces a new semiblind component separation method, cMILC, which reduces residual foreground contamination in CMB B-mode maps by adding constraints and balancing between foreground biases and constraints on r. This method is significant in handling interference from Galactic foregrounds in experimental settings similar to LiteBIRD and PICO.
