Conservative, density-based smoothed particle hydrodynamics with improved partition of the unity and better estimation of gradients

Domingo Garcia-Senz et al.

Summary: This paper studies the impact of the choice of volume elements on the accuracy of gradient estimation in the integral approach scheme of smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH). A new variant of volume elements is proposed to improve the partition of the unity and maintain the Lagrangian formulation of SPH. The modified ISPH scheme is found to be flexible and capable of handling sharp density contrasts, with excellent performance demonstrated in various tests.

An accurate SPH Volume Adaptive Scheme for modeling strongly-compressible multiphase flows. Part 2: Extension of the scheme to cylindrical coordinates and simulations of 3D axisymmetric problems with experimental validations

P-N Sun et al.

Summary: This work introduces an Axisymmetric-SPH model by extending the SPH Volume Adaptive Scheme to cylindrical polar coordinates for addressing axisymmetric problems. The model conveniently simulates three-dimensional axisymmetric problems such as rising bubbles, expanding or collapsing bubbles. The study also presents a method to avoid singularity at the axis and demonstrates the importance of the Volume Adaptive Scheme for adjusting particle volumes in the model.
