Fucoidan from Sargassum hemiphyllum inhibits infection and inflammation of Helicobacter pylori

Bo-Rui Chen et al.

Summary: The fucoidan from Sargassum hemiphyllum has been found to significantly reduce H. pylori infection without developing drug resistance. Fucoidan acts as a strong anti-inflammatory agent and inhibits the adhesion of H. pylori to host cells, thereby reducing the infection rate.

Extraction, Biochemical Characterization, and Health Effects of Native and Degraded Fucoidans from Sargassum crispifolium

Wei-Cheng Hsiao et al.

Summary: In this study, a native crude fucoidan (Ex) was extracted from Sargassum crispifolium and two degraded fucoidans, ExAh and ExHp, were obtained. ExHp showed the highest antioxidant activity and ExAh exhibited the maximum immune promoting effects. These fucoidans could potentially be used as effective antioxidants and immunostimulant agents, which are significant in the development of food and nutraceutical products.

Allelopathic effects and potential allelochemical of Sargassum fusiforme on red tide microalgae Heterosigma akashiwo

Siqi Sun et al.

Summary: This study identified and isolated six potential allelopathic substances from marine brown algae Sargassum fusiforme, including ALA and 24-hydroperoxy-24-vinylcholesterol, which showed significant inhibitory effects on the growth of Heterosigma akashiwo. The research also investigated the allelopathic mechanism between ALA and H. akashiwo, revealing a gradual decrease in SOD and POD activities and a reduction in photosynthetic pigments with increasing ALA concentration, suggesting the potential of macroalgae in red tide control.

MEGA11 Molecular Evolutionary Genetics Analysis Version 11

Koichiro Tamura et al.

Summary: MEGA software, a mature tool for computational molecular evolution, has been enhanced with new additions for building timetrees of species, pathogens, and gene families using rapid relaxed-clock methods. These additions include methods for estimating divergence times, confidence intervals, and new options for tagging sequences with spatiotemporal sampling information. The enhancements aim to improve user experience, result quality, and the pace of biological discovery.
