Atropine Is a Suppressor of Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition (EMT) That Reduces Stemness in Drug-Resistant Breast Cancer Cells

Emad A. Ahmed et al.

Summary: Atropine, extracted from belladonna plant, is an anticholinergic drug used to treat cholinergic drug overdose or mushroom poisoning. In silico docking analysis suggests that atropine has strong virtual binding to two major signaling molecules involved in EMT regulation. Both gene and protein expression results indicate that atropine effectively reduces EMT and colony formation in breast tumor cells. Thus, atropine could be a potential suppressor of EMT in drug-resistant breast tumor cells and be used in combination with other chemotherapeutic drugs.

β-Caryophyllene Induces Apoptosis and Inhibits Angiogenesis in Colorectal Cancer Models

Saad S. Dahham et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that BCP exhibited strong anti-angiogenic activity by blocking the migration of endothelial cells, tube-like network formation, suppression of VEGF secretion, and sprouting of microvessels. BCP also deformed the vascularization architecture in a chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane assay and showed a significant reduction in tumor growth in xenograft models by inducing apoptosis and modulating gene expressions related to cell survival and proliferation.

Combination therapy of cisplatin with cilastatin enables an increased dose of cisplatin, enhancing its antitumor effect by suppression of nephrotoxicity

Masashi Arita et al.

Summary: Cisplatin, a potent anticancer agent with dose-limiting nephrotoxicity, can be combined with cilastatin to reduce renal toxicity while enhancing antitumor effects, indicating a promising strategy for improving cancer treatment outcomes.

β-Caryophyllene from Chilli Pepper Inhibits the Proliferation of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Cells by Affecting miR-659-3p-Targeted Sphingosine Kinase 1 (SphK1)

Jiaji Lei et al.

Summary: Beta-Caryophyllene from chilli pepper inhibits NSCLC cell growth by increasing miR-659-3p levels and regulating SphK1, leading to enhanced apoptosis and decreased oxidative stress levels.

Molecular Mechanisms of Chemoresistance Induced by Cisplatin in NSCLC Cancer Therapy

Jolanta Kryczka et al.

Summary: Cancer cells employ various mechanisms to enhance survival, growth, and resistance to therapy. Late diagnosis contributes to low survival rates in lung cancer, often leading to advanced stages with drug resistance. Research highlights the complexity of cisplatin resistance in NSCLC, revealing key genes and pathways involved in tolerance development.

β-Caryophyllene induces apoptosis and inhibits cell proliferation by deregulation of STAT-3/mTOR/AKT signaling in human bladder cancer cells: An in vitro study

Xiaodong Yu et al.

Summary: The study explored the antitumor effect of BCP on human bladder cancer cells and its potential molecular mechanisms, including inhibition of STAT-3/mTOR/AKT signaling pathways and induction of apoptosis. Results showed significant cytotoxicity, ROS synthesis, apoptosis induction, and reduced cell migration in BCP-treated cells. Furthermore, suppression of STAT-3, mTOR, and AKT protein expressions were observed, suggesting BCP as an effective treatment with chemotherapeutic potential for bladder carcinoma.
