Larvicidal activities of Piper kadsura (Choisy) Ohwi extract and its constituents against Aedes albopictus, toxicity to non-target organisms and development of cellulose nanocrystal-stabilized Pickering emulsion

Seon-Mi Seo et al.

Summary: Among 15 plant methanol extracts, Piper kadsura stem extract (PkSE) exhibited the strongest larvicidal activity against Aedes albotictus. Active compounds isolated from PkSE included chingchengenamide A, piperenone, and pellitorine. The CNC-stabilized Pickering emulsion of PkSE showed slightly higher larvicidal activity compared to pure PkSE. The acute oral and dermal toxicity of PkSE towards rats was found to be >2000 mg/kg body weight, with a similar low toxicity towards honeybees. The no observed effect concentration (NOEC) of PkSE towards Oryzias latipes was 0.031 mg/mL.
