100% N2O inhibition in photocatalytic NOx reduction by carbon particles over Bi2WO6/TiO2 Z-scheme heterojunctions

Ruting Yuan et al.

Summary: In this study, a Bi2WO6/TiO2 heterojunction photocatalyst was fabricated to achieve 100% inhibition of N2O formation during photo-SCR of NOx. The optimized composite showed high photocatalytic efficiency and provided a new perspective for fabricating catalysts in the field of pollutants removal with toxic byproduct control.

Pharmaceutical pollution of the world's rivers

John L. Wilkinson et al.

Summary: Environmental exposure to active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) can have negative effects on ecosystems and human health. A global-scale study of API pollution in rivers highlights the highest concentrations in sub-Saharan Africa, south Asia, and South America, primarily in low- to middle-income countries with poor wastewater and waste management infrastructure. The most frequently detected APIs include carbamazepine, metformin, and caffeine, with some concentrations exceeding safe levels for aquatic organisms. Pharmaceutical pollution poses a global threat to environmental and human health and has implications for achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Anodization of large area Ti: a versatile material for caffeine photodegradation and hydrogen production

Marcel Sihor et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the facile and scalable fabrication of large-area TiO2 nanostructures via electrochemical anodization, with excellent photocatalytic activity and hydrogen production. The formation of different TiO2 nanostructures with varied morphology and performance at different applied potentials was observed. The highest caffeine photodegradation and hydrogen production rates were achieved using specific TiO2 nanostructures. This work highlights the potential strategy for the synthesis of large-area anodic TiO2 nanostructures for efficient photocatalysis and hydrogen production.

Anodic TiO2 nanotube walls reconstructed: Inner wall replaced by ALD TiO2 coating

Martin Motola et al.

Summary: A reconstruction process of TiO2 nanotube (TNT) layers was conducted to enhance their photoelectrochemical performance and photocatalytic activity. By preparing double-wall (DW) TNT layers, etching the inner wall to obtain single-wall (SW) TNT layers, and coating with TiO2 coatings of different thicknesses, significant improvements were achieved in incident photon-to-electron conversion efficiency and photocatalytic performance compared to untreated TNT layers.
