Exploration of Principal Component Analysis: Deriving Principal Component Analysis Visually Using Spectra

J. Renwick Beattie et al.

Summary: Spectroscopy rapidly captures a large amount of data, which is processed using principal component analysis to simplify complex spectral datasets into comprehensible information. Despite its wide use, the linear algebra behind principal component analysis is often not well understood by applied scientists and spectroscopists. The process traces the journey of spectra and relies solely on the information within the spectra to provide meaningful interpretation and analysis.

The biosynthesis of the cannabinoids

M. Nazir Tahir et al.

Summary: Cannabis has played a crucial role in Eurasian civilization for thousands of years, but limited research has been done due to a century of prohibition. With increasing legalization, scientists are now focusing on studying the pharmacopeia of cannabinoids and understanding their biosynthesis to engineer strains with specific cannabinoid profiles. Although there are still gaps in our knowledge about the biosynthesis of cannabinoids, particularly for minor components, this review highlights the tools and approaches that will be used to improve understanding and access to these potentially medically relevant materials.
