Macrocyclic tetra(azo-) and tetra(azoxyfurazan)s: Comparative study of decomposition and combustion with linear analogs

V. P. Sinditskii et al.

Summary: The thermal decomposition and combustion mechanisms of macrocyclic compounds TATF and TOATF were studied, revealing higher activation energies compared to their linear counterparts. The initial decomposition of macrocycles involves the monomolecular cleavage of the C-NN bond, while linear compounds decompose through a concerted mechanism. The condensed-phase chemistry was found to influence the combustion mechanism of TOATF, showing combustion instability for TATF at pressures below 3 MPa. Both TATF and TOATF are fast-burning energetic compounds with burning rates exceeding CL-20.
