Sublimation thermodynamics of pyrazinoic, dipicolinic and quinolinic acids: Experiment and theoretical prediction

K. Drozd et al.

Summary: The thermophysical characteristics and decomposition of pyrazinoic, dipicolinic, and quinolinic acids were studied using DSC, TG, and mass-spectrometry. Vapor pressures as a function of temperature were measured, with the finding that quinolinic acid remains stable in solid form up to 367.15 K. Different calculation schemes for sublimation enthalpy estimation were compared, and a correlation method was used to estimate the sublimation thermodynamic functions. This method proved to be a quick, convenient, and inexpensive way to evaluate the sublimation thermodynamic functions of molecular crystals.

Isavuconazole: Thermodynamic Evaluation of Processes Sublimation, Dissolution and Partition in Pharmaceutically Relevant Media

Marina Ol'khovich et al.

Summary: The temperature dependence of saturated vapor pressure and thermodynamic functions of sublimation of isavuconazole (IVZ) were investigated, with the study revealing the compound's standard molar enthalpy of sublimation, melting point, and solubility in various solvents. The results showed significant variations in solubility among different solvents, and the Hansen model was used for evaluation and analysis of the solubility data. Additionally, it was found that the modified Apelblat model provided the best correlation with experimental data compared to the van't Hoff model, and the drug distribution from aqueous solution to organic medium was entropy-driven and spontaneous.

A Combined Experimental and Theoretical Study of Nitrofuran Antibiotics: Crystal Structures, DFT Computations, Sublimation and Solution Thermodynamics

Alex N. Manin et al.

Summary: A single crystal of furazolidone has been obtained and its crystal structure determined. The study discusses the common and distinctive features of furazolidone and nitrofurantoin crystal packing, as well as characterizing non-covalent interactions in both crystals using advanced analysis techniques. Thermophysical characteristics, decomposition, and solubility processes of the compounds were investigated, revealing important differences between nitrofurantoin and furazolidone. The combination of experimental and theoretical approaches allowed for an in-depth study of the molecular and crystal structure of nitrofuran antibiotics and their pharmaceutically relevant properties.
