Metabarcoding of insect-associated fungal communities: a comparison of internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and large-subunit (LSU) rRNA markers

Angelina Ceballos-Escalera et al.

Summary: Full taxonomic characterisation of fungal communities is important for ecological associations and early detection of pathogens and invasive species. Metabarcoding of ITS2 and LSU D1-D2 regions can be used to characterise fungal communities, but relying on a single short sequence fragment may limit identification confidence. Using phylogenetic analysis of OTU sequences, higher success rate and greater accuracy of species identification can be achieved.

Seasonal Changes in Pinus tabuliformis Root-Associated Fungal Microbiota Drive N and P Cycling in Terrestrial Ecosystem

Hai-Hua Wang et al.

Summary: The study reveals that seasonal changes in microclimate factors can significantly impact root-associated fungal communities and soil properties, leading to higher fungal biomass and lower diversity in warm seasons. Furthermore, the complexity of fungal microbial networks may decrease under higher temperature and humidity conditions.

Diversity and Communities of Fungal Endophytes from Four Pinus Species in Korea

Soon Ok Rim et al.

Summary: The study showed that roots and needle tissues are more heavily colonized by fungal endophytes compared to stem tissue. Among the four pine species, P. thunbergii exhibited the highest species richness and diversity of fungal endophytes.

Role of abiotic factors in Nothofagus pumilio forest mortality: The sensitivity of ecotones

Manuela Tarabini et al.

Summary: The study on the large-scale mortality of Nothofagus pumilio forests revealed that higher elevation and precipitation are the most relevant factors associated with forest death, indicating the sensitivity of these environments to climate change.
