Effect of deep eutectic solvents-regulated lignin structure on subsequent pyrolysis products selectivity

Tengfei Li et al.

Summary: The chemical structure of lignin plays a crucial role in determining the distribution of pyrolysis products. Treatment of softwood kraft lignin with deep eutectic solvents (DES) can improve lignin structure and enhance the selectivity of pyrolysis products. Specifically, choline chloride/ethylene glycol and zinc chloride/ethylene glycol treatment significantly increase the content of H-phenols and C-phenols in lignin pyrolysis products, while CE pretreatment contributes to higher bio-oil yield and lower char content.

The role of the compositions of HZSM-5 zeolites modified with nanosized anatase in propane and ethanol conversion

Elena Domoroshchina et al.

Summary: This study obtained catalytic systems based on HZSM-5 zeolites with nanosized anatase in situ by modified hydrothermal and sol-gel methods. The catalysts were characterized and analyzed in propane and liquid ethanol conversion reactions. It was found that HZSM-5(40) exhibited higher selectivity and conversion in the propane conversion reaction, while the SETH value of NA/HZSM-5 increased with the increase of NA content. In the ethanol conversion reaction, SDEE/ETH was close to 98-99% for HZSM-5(25) and HZSM-5(40), and the alpha E to ETH was comparable for all HZSM-5(300°C). The catalytic activity of HZSM-5 and NA/HZSM-5 was related to their characteristics.

Linyao Ke et al.

Summary: In this study, the ex-situ catalytic co-pyrolysis of polyethylene and lignin over HZSM-5 under different pressures was investigated. The results showed that the pressurized operation during co-pyrolysis led to an increase in BTEX yield while maintaining catalyst stability. The ratio of the two raw materials significantly affected hydrogen radicals-mass transfer efficiency, which in turn affected the production of BTEX. Additionally, pressurized operation had a dual positive effect on coke inhibition and water release, promoting catalyst stability and BTEX production.

Insights into coke location of catalyst deactivation during in-situ catalytic reforming of lignite pyrolysis volatiles over cobalt-modified zeolites

Xue-Yu Ren et al.

Summary: In this study, HZSM-5, co-incorporated HZSM-5, and co-incorporated hierarchical HZSM-5 catalysts were used in catalytic reforming of volatiles from lignite pyrolysis to improve the yield of light aromatics. The combination of hierarchical pores and metallic sites promoted the formation of benzene, toluene, xylene, and naphthalene, while reducing coke formation and prolonging the catalyst lifespan. Hierarchical pores prevented internal coke formation, and metallic sites suppressed O-containing species from depositing on the zeolite surface.

Study of catalyst deactivation during 1,3-butanediol dehydration to produce butadiene

Andrea C. Rodriguez et al.

Summary: The study investigated catalyst deactivation and mechanism of coke formation during gas phase dehydration of 1,3-butanediol on various solid acids. Different nature of cokes formed on different catalysts were characterized, with higher molecular weight carbonaceous products observed on HZSM5 and TPA/SiO2 compared to Al2O3 and SiO2/Al2O3. Insoluble coke was only detected on TPA/SiO2, attributed to the strength of its Bronsted acid sites. Additionally, GCMS chromatograms of total soluble coke revealed the presence of aromatic and polyaromatic species, particularly well differentiated on HZSM5.
