Quasi-brittle porous material: Simulated effect of stochastic air void structure on compressive strength

Anna-Leena Erkkila et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of porosity on the compressive strength of quasi-brittle materials through simulations. A new simple model was developed based on the linear relationship between the cubic root of air void fraction (porosity) and the simulated compressive strength, providing insights into the compressional behavior of low porosity materials.

Biochar admixtured lightweight, porous and tougher cement mortars: Mechanical, durability and micro computed tomography analysis

Sai Praneeth et al.

Summary: By replacing sand with biochar as filler material in cement, the flexural strength of the cement mortar can be improved, and thermal conductivity and density can be reduced. The addition of biochar also increases the porosity of the mortar, leading to a decrease in CO2 emissions.

The effects of nanosilica on the fresh and hardened properties of 3D printable mortars

Pawel Sikora et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the significant influence of nanosilica on the hydration, rheological, mechanical, and transport properties of printable mortars, accelerating setting and hardening while improving compressive strength and pore structure. Increasing nanosilica dosage results in higher yield stress and reduced open time of mortar. Incorporation of nanosilica also enhances transport properties and buildability, leading to improved overall performance of 3D printed mortars.
