Texture evolution and mechanical anisotropy of cold-rolled Zr-4 alloy tube after recrystallization annealing

Changxing Cui et al.

Summary: This study investigated the texture evolution and mechanical properties of Zr-4 alloy tubes after annealing. The microstructure transformed into equiaxed grains with the increase in temperature, but the texture remained relatively unchanged. Tensile tests showed the presence of tensile twins and pyramidal slip, resulting in higher yield strength and ultimate tensile strength in the tangential direction compared to the axial direction.

Heterostructured materials

Yuntian Zhu et al.

Summary: Heterostructured materials are a new class of materials composed of heterogeneous zones with dramatically different properties. They exhibit superior mechanical or physical properties that surpass their conventional homogenous counterparts. This review focuses on the structural heterostructured materials, which achieve their superior mechanical properties through hetero-deformation induced strengthening and work hardening. The unique deformation behavior of these materials, along with their wide application potential, is driving the rapid development of the field.

Achieving synergy enhancement of strength and ductility in Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo-0.1Si alloy by fabricating a new multiscale microstructure

Yu Zhou et al.

Summary: A new multiscale microstructure (NMM) comprised of long-plate alpha (alpha long) grain, fine-equiaxed alpha (alpha fine) grain and ultrafine alpha (alpha ultra) precipitates was fabricated by hot rolling and aging treatment on a bimodal microstructure (BM) of Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo-0.1Si (Ti6242s) alloy. Interestingly, the aging arouses a synergy enhancement of strength and ductility in NMM. The alpha long and alpha fine grains mainly contribute to ductility, while the alpha ultra and retained dislocations mainly promote strength. Moreover, the cooperation among multiscale alpha grains generates an apparent hetero-deformation induced (HDI) stress to improve strength and ductility simultaneously.

Effect of heating rate on the recrystallization behavior and mechanical properties of a cold-rolled Zr702

Qinghui Zeng et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of heating rate on the recrystallization behavior and mechanical properties of Zr702. After cold rolling, heat treatment was performed at different heating rates and target temperatures. The results show that the fraction and average grain size of recrystallized grain increase with increasing temperature or decreasing heating rate. The compressive yield strength decreases with increasing temperature or decreasing heating rate. The strength calculations based on the EBSD data indicate that dislocation strengthening results in higher strength for samples treated at low temperatures or highest heating rate.

The compositional homogenization control of Cu-Ti alloys prepared by accumulative roll bonding-deformation diffusion process

Yingming Tu et al.

Summary: A new process called accumulative roll bonding-deformation diffusion (ARB-DD) with subsequent deformation diffusion heat treatment has been proposed to improve the composition homogeneity of alloys. Compared to the conventional accumulative roll bonding-diffusion heat treatment (ARB-DHT) process, the ARB-DD process promotes element diffusion through the synergistic effects of deformation and thermal effects, leading to enhanced composition homogenization.

Layer dissolution in accumulative roll bonded bulk Zr/Nb multilayers under heavy-ion irradiation

M. Radhakrishnan et al.

Summary: The heavy-ion irradiation behavior of bulk zirconium-niobium multilayered composites was investigated up to large doses, revealing layer instability and damage variation with dose levels. Despite the elevated irradiation temperature and slight positive heat of mixing, no phase separation was observed, demonstrating the chemical mixing facilitated by liquid phase miscibility of Zr and Nb.

Effect of ECAP and annealing on structure and mechanical properties of metastable beta Ti-18Zr-15Nb (at.%) alloy

V Sheremetyev et al.

Summary: The effect of ECAP and annealing at different temperatures on the Ti-18Zr-15Nb biomedical alloy results in changes in its structure and mechanical properties. The formation of a predominantly nanocrystalline structure leads to higher strength, while a submicrocrystalline structure promotes ductility in the alloy.

Effect of high pressure torsion process on the microhardness, microstructure and tribological property of Ti6Al4V alloy

Summary: The fully lamellar Ti6Al4V alloy was severely deformed using high pressure torsion (HPT) process, resulting in significant improvements in micro-hardness and grain size. The tribological properties of the alloy were investigated for the first time, showing a notable decrease in friction coefficient and specific wear rate with an increase in HPT revolutions. Overall, the HPT processed Ti6Al4V alloys displayed great potential in structural applications due to their enhanced mechanical and tribological properties.

Influence of a prior pressurization treatment on creep behaviour of an ultrafine-grained Zr-2.5%Nb alloy

Vaclav Sklenicka et al.

Summary: The study revealed that specimens processed by ECAP and subsequently high hydrostatic pressurization treatment showed no substantial differences in creep behavior compared to specimens processed by ECAP only under identical creep loading conditions. However, the high-level treatment of high hydrostatic pressurization in this study did not effectively remove nanoscale porosity resulting from ECAP processing. Increasing ECAP passes led to a significant weakening of creep resistance of the alloy due to various reasons including accumulation of high-angle grain boundaries, multiplication of dislocations, and dislocation/particle interactions.
