Characterization of the Widmansta spacing diaeresis tten structure in γ-TiAl alloy using an EBSD-FIB-TEM combined process

Zitong Gao et al.

Summary: The crystallography and interface atomic structure of the Widmansta center dot tten structure in γ-TiAl alloy were characterized using a well-designed EBSD-FIB-TEM combined preparation-characterization process. The atomic structure of the special E11 CSL interface between Widmansta center dot tten and lamellar structures was found to be perfectly coherent on the atomic scale, providing strong evidence for the sympathetic nucleation mechanism of the Widmansta center dot t-ten structure.

Phase transformation and deformation behavior of a TiAl-Nb composite under quasi-static and dynamic loadings

Li Wang et al.

Summary: By introducing Nb into TiAl intermetallics, a TiAl-Nb intermetallic matrix composite was successfully prepared with improved high-temperature deformability. The composite exhibited different temperature-dependent behaviors in ultimate tensile strength, with Nb-rich regions showing better deformability.

Formation mechanism of γ twins in β-solidified γ-TiAl alloys

Yan Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, the formation mechanism of gamma twins in TiAl alloys was analyzed at the atomic scale using HADDF-STEM. The results revealed the process of growth defects in alpha(2)-platelets transforming into the gamma phase, as well as the rearrangement of defects into gamma and gamma(T) platelets during annealing. This provides significant insights for microstructure control and performance improvement in TiAl alloys.

Development of gamma titanium aluminide (γ-TiAl) alloys: A review

Ozge Genc et al.

Summary: Gamma titanium aluminides (γ-TiAl) are suitable for aerospace applications due to their high strength and low density at high temperatures. However, low ductility and fracture toughness at low temperatures limit their use. This study investigates the effect of additional alloying elements on improving the shortcomings of γ-TiAl alloy, resulting in improved microstructure and mechanical properties.
