Evolution of microstructure and mechanical properties during annealing of heavily rolled AlCoCrFeNi2.1 eutectic high-entropy alloy

Adrianna Lozinko et al.

Summary: The microstructure and mechanical properties of a 90% cold-rolled AlCoCrFeNi2.1 eutectic high-entropy alloy undergo changes during annealing at 800 degrees C. Recrystallization occurs faster in the FCC phase compared to the B2 regions, resulting in increased grain size. Partially recrystallized samples produced by annealing exhibit a combination of high yield strength and good ductility.

Simultaneously enhanced strength-ductility of AlCoCrFeNi2.1 eutectic high-entropy alloy via additive manufacturing

Liufei Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, AlCoCrFeNi2.1 eutectic high-entropy alloy was prepared using laser metal deposition (LMD) technique. The LMD-fabricated alloy showed significantly enhanced tensile strength and increased ductility compared to conventionally cast samples. The improved mechanical properties were attributed to the refinement of the uniformly distributed eutectic structure.

When is a Cast Iron Eutectic?

Anna Regordosa et al.

Summary: The literature often discusses the ambiguity between cast irons appearing eutectic by thermal analysis and being hypereutectic according to the equilibrium phase diagram. Experimental analysis has shown that considering the solidification path during primary graphite precipitation can differentiate slightly hypereutectic from very hypereutectic cast irons. Only an alloy with a carbon equivalent at the boundary between mildly and strongly hypereutectic alloys, and which is inoculated, can appear eutectic by thermal analysis.

Selective laser melting of dense and crack-free AlCoCrFeNi2.1 eutectic high entropy alloy: Synergizing strength and ductility

Lin He et al.

Summary: By leveraging the good castability of eutectic high entropy alloys and high cooling rate of selective laser melting (SLM), a nearly fully dense and crack-free AlCoCrFeNi2.1 eutectic high entropy alloy with exceptional strength-ductility synergy was obtained. The heterogeneous eutectic microstructure consisting of refined cells at nanoscale contributed to the enhanced strength and ductility.

Strong yet ductile nanolamellar high-entropy alloys by additive manufacturing

Jie Ren et al.

Summary: Through laser powder bed fusion, we have successfully printed dual-phase nanolamellar high-entropy alloys with high yield strength and large uniform elongation. The high yield strength is attributed to the dual-phase structure consisting of alternating face-centred cubic and body-centred cubic nanolamellae, while the large tensile ductility arises from the high work-hardening capability of the dual-phase nanolamellae embedded in microscale eutectic colonies.

Hierarchical eutectic structure and superior mechanical property in low cobalt content AlCo0.2CrFeNi2.1 alloy by laser metal deposition

Chong Feng et al.

Summary: The AlCo0.2CrFeNi2.1 high entropy alloy fabricated via laser metal deposition (LMD) exhibited hierarchical eutectic microstructures and anisotropic mechanical properties. It achieved better ultimate tensile strength and ductility in the building direction compared to the as-cast alloy. The microstructural refinement induced by high cooling rate solidification and the size differences in different directions explained the changes in mechanical properties.

Strengthening control in laser powder bed fusion of austenitic stainless steels via grain boundary engineering

Hossein Eskandari Sabzi et al.

Summary: A new approach to modeling microstructure evolution and yield strength in laser powder bed fusion components was introduced, revealing the activation of various restoration mechanisms during the process. A mechanism for the formation of low-angle grain boundaries to enhance alloy strength was suggested, along with a validated equation based on subgrain size. The study quantitatively described the dependency of yield stress on process parameters and alloy composition.
